Dr Mubarak Mand said that Pakistan was safe from these affects because of long distance from Japan.


Pakistani atomic scientist Dr Samar Mubarak Mand said that the government should ban import of food items from Japan.


Commenting on reports that nuclear radioactivity had reached Pakistan, Dr Mubarak Mand said that Pakistan was safe from these affects because of long distance of the country from Japan but he said that food items should not be imported from Japan.

Dr Mubarak Mand said that radioactivity could spread due to arrival of people and sea species from Japan while Chief Meteorologist Dr Ghulam Rasool said that nuclear radioactivity elements would be eliminated in monsoon rains.

Japan’s nuclear radioactivity reaches Pakistan
The radioactive radiation emissions from the Fukushima nuclear plant are reported to reach Pakistan.


According to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), small traces of airborne radioactive iodine were detected in Pakistan.

The scientists are saying that the amount of radiation detected in Pakistani air, does not pose a serious threat to the environment so far.

Europe, north-western Asia and India have already banned imports from Japan.

A 9.2 magnitude earthquake hit Japan on March 11 that cracked the Fukushima nuclear power plant. Scientists said that the intensity of radiation at the stricken-plant was equal to many atomic bombs’ explosion.
