Afridi should captain Pakistan in tests: Imran Khan

KARACHI:

Pakistans limited overs captain Shahid Afridi should return to test cricket and skipper the national team in all three formats of the sport, former captain Imran Khan said.

Afridi pulled out of a test series against Australia last year in England after losing the first test at Lords as captain.

Since then he has only captained Pakistan in one-day internationals and T20 matches. Senior batsman Misbah-ul-Haq led Pakistan in their last two test series against South Africa and New Zealand.

Afridi, who led Pakistan to the semi-finals of the World Cup that ended on Saturday, has made himself available for this months tour to the West Indies after previously planning on missing the series.

There should be just one captain for all three formats of the game, Imran told reporters at a function held in Lahore to honour Pakistans World Cup umpire Aleem Dar.

The main reason for India winning the World Cup is that their captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni leads them in tests, ODIs and T20 cricket, the cricketer turned politician said.

Imran, who led Pakistan to their only World Cup title in 1992, said that Dhoni had matured quicker as a captain because he had developed the temperament to handle the different pressures of the three formats.

Afridi must also be captain in all three formats of the sport. My belief is that unless you captain in test cricket you cant really be at the top of your game, he said.

Afridi withdrew from test cricket after claiming he wanted to spend more time with his family and focus on the limited overs game.

I think Imran Khan is correct. You can also think this from different view that Shahid Afreedi deserve place in Test Team as a Bowler too. If he or our Board or Selectors think that his Batting Temperament does not suit for Test Cricket then they bring atleast 2 Spin Bowlers better than Afridi otherwise Afridi should be the part of Test Team

im sure imran just want a pashtun to be lead in all area thats what his mentality, he always think that pashtoon only deserve to rule, imagine afride have no space in test team and left testteam captaincy only after one match cus he knows that cannot face test matches stress, why not imran say like that afridi cannot deserve to play test so he is not capable to be a odis and t20 captaincy.

I don't think it is Imran Khan who is giving Pushtuns more importance compared to others; this just seems to be all in your head. If there is someone who refers to Pakistanis as Pushtuns, Balochis, Sindhis, Punjabis etc etc., then it is the one and only ALTAF HUSSAIN and his MQM. Plain sick of people trying to create conflicts by referring to fellow Pakistanis as Pushtun, Punjabi, Balochi, Sindhi etc. Can't believe people think like this themselves about fellow Pakistanis yet blame foreign powers to be the ones causing all the problems in the country. Think about it; with this kind of mentality WE are the reasons behind our problems. Talk about unity..

We're ONE, we're PAKISTANIS! Not to mention that these people belonging to various ethnic backgrounds with their own set of traditions and languages are the beauty of Pakistan. They all make Pakistan.

yes offcource we are pakistani ist but thats what you have to think about it im not follower of mqm but what im trying to explain here is what im seen from long time when he was captian he tried to put zakir khan in place of waseem akram but share talent of alram make his spot and then become a world class player if you red his books or what ever happening in our lahore or other part of country he only talk about waziristan from where his mother belong he never critisized taliban ot baitullah even when baitullah came out after rumor of his death his party head in waziristan welcome him with flower, his role model is sher shah soori or abdali who killed hunderd of thousand punjabi when they come to attack on our land, any way i dont want to be go more im sorry if i hurt you or any one.
