Just weeks after a gruesome slaying in Mexico, where nine dead bodies were discovered hanging on a highway bridge and 14 decapitated corpses were found stuffed in a vehicle, here is another horrific incident being linked to drug violence in the country.
At least 49 headless bodies in plastic trash bags were dumped along Mexico highway in Nuevo Leon state, between the cities of Monterrey and Reynosa to the U.S border at around 2:30 in the morning, Sunday. A video report in CNN says that the victims appeared to be Central American immigrants or residents of another states.
A state security spokesman told press that the latest crime was not an attack against the civilian population. It was believed to be the result of a feud between two drug gangs: Zetas and Gulf cartel, fighting for a control of smuggling routes into the US.
A blasphemous message was written in a nearby wall signed by the Zetas drug cartel, report says. During the recent killings, a profane message was also seen where the dead bodies were hanged, reportedly signed by a notorious drug billionaire and fugitive, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman-the leading crime boss of Gulf Cartel.
The Zetas gang was organized by ex-elite soldiers-turned-hitmen in the 1990s and the Gulf Cartel was their former employers.
