Yes. This happened in Zia era. It was Sultan Bashir ud Din Mehmood who was working in Atomic Energy Commission and later became mulla and writer of book on Islam and Science. He seriously submitted a well written proposal for Gen. Zia and Pakistan Science Foundation for researching into capturing Jinnat and make electricity out of them coz Quran says Jinnat are made of fire and they must be possessing great amount of energy. Anyways, let me tell you that Pervez HoodBoy belongs to "Ismaili" cult ( a branch of Islam), but , at his very young age, felt that ''Ismaili-izm'' was not a proper way of life, so abandoned it despite the outrage of his family and accepted 'Proper Islam". If you want to criticize hi, do it, but involving his belief is the least mean thing anyone could do.

He advocates civil liberty but acting 180 degree opposite against it.
