But why would you do it? Sit quietly and pray while travelling. This is allowed and permissible. Why do you need to show off your religion. I have to say that Muslims take undue advantage of the freedoms offered in western societies. The guard did not do anything wrong. Instead of arguing with him, he shoud have just gone out to pray. Such things incite hatred and promote racism. Infact one of the reasons of the right wing rise in the west is due to this kind of attitude by muslims.

Stop being snowflakes and hiding behind the law for every little thing. West gives you more freedom than is available in your own country and the best of all is the freedom to preach. What else you need idiots?

Also for ibadat the attitude of a muslim should be to make use of any leniency provided for by the religion rather than trying to act over-pious. For muamlaat you should act in the best way you can foregoing your right and staying far away from the red line. What we see infact is the total opposite.

West gives you the freedom of religion also. Praying in public is no crime. Standing up for your rights is perfectly fine. The guard's action was biased and against his rights.

No need to be oversmart. Watch the whole video when the guy went to the end of hall and prayed at very quiet place where there was no one sitting there.

My views are not just based on this incident but it is the overvall beahviour of muslims in the west. They take the liberties offered by the west for granted and overstretch those rights while ignoring the sensitivities of the people there. A simple way to understand this is to think what we as a community are willing to tolerate from minorities in our land of origin and demand only that when we are living in the west. It is beyond hypocritical to ask for more. Just the fact that west allows immigration not just based on other things but also on humanitarian grounds and persecution is a great favour when countries in the middle east and even shit holes like india do not offer a route to immigration. I see this ''in the face' - this is my right behaviour all the time which really shows how ungrateful a bunch we are.

Human relationships are not just based on the law. There are many things that are lawful but we do not do based on the sensitivities of people around us. As muslims we should take care not to antagonize the people who have given us refuge, better standard of living and freedom to follow religion and even preach. Many countries do not even allow you to become citizens even if you work there all your life let alone just land there uninvited. When you talk about rights, it is a relative concept which countries give to there own citizens under a framework. As an immigrant with a totally different background we need to compare the rights we have or give our minorities / people from other countries in our country of origin and then make a comparison.

I think there is no need to be ashamed or apologetic about your identity or religion. That kind if thinking will lead you or your next generation will totally abandon your religion, which you are entitled to if you want. But in the same way people are entitled to be proud of their religion and practice it in a way that doesn't infringe on other people. This person went to a totally secluded spot to pray so he was well within his rights and limits. These "sensitivities" that you talk of are nothing but a form of racism or biasedness that needs to be confronted like Rosa Parks did.

BTW, there is a name for the "sensitivities" you mentioned, it is called Islamophobia.

Who says there is need to be ashamed but there is no need to be proud of it either and show it off where there is no need. Islam abhors pride and being a Muslim is a big responsibility and a test and humbleness is the hallmark of a muslim. It is actually the thinking you are displaying is the problem and I see this especially in the second generation entitled Muslims in the west. This incident is just an example as I see this behaviour all the time. This place was a public building and if no one was there at that time there is no guarantee that people will not be there at any other time and that is what security guard told him to pray outside next time. BTW racism and bias is everywhere and you cannot eliminate it completely but you have to measure it relatively. Do we in our Muslim country allow even a minutest display of religiousity in public let alone preaching? We Pakistanis should especially not even murmur about religious freedom after what we did to the Qadianis. How have we persecuted and hounded them out of the country. Muslims go to the west and enjoy greater religious freedom than any Muslim country worth its name along with basking in the rights, citizenship status and luxuries offered by the developed world while complaining at every fall of the feather. Allah has given leeway with ibadat when in transit and so on but there is no margin given on morals which we find lacking in ourselves. We do not find such agressiveness in being honest, upright and consientious. Infact all morals are thrown out of the window just for acquiring a passport or scrounging the last morsel of 'benefits'.
