I think these are very hard decision by the Government to fire all these employees.

But

Most of them will be eligible to pension as well as graduity.

50%~70% skilled manpower will be rehired by the new management, if they are willing to work.

I think we shall move on with the firing since it is not going to effect any employee.

If we stop, new issues will come up and it will become difficult. Move on............

Most important is steel mill must run as quickly as possible with the new management and business must start in Pakistan.

I agree, whence the 48% of the workforce is already above 50 years of age. Their graduity will be enough to last for years to come. Rather than losing this tide of the time and let them end up like the employees who retired after 2013 and still waiting for their retirement dues, it will be wiser to get them their graduities now and revive the mills so that their children may get a place to work, in near future.

Steel mill and PIA were destroyed by most corrupt party called PeepeePee. They sold the jobs and inducted people had nothing to with professionalism. On top of that, there was another monster's party called MQM in partnership with Murdari's government are equally responsible.

We have stopped a business of 400 to 500 billion rupees in Pakistan. These employees are getting their salaries. But thousands of indirect jobs are stopped due to steel mill not operational.
So most important is steel mill must start doing business.

Also if new management gets export orders, even half of current spendings can be subsadized to generate foreign reserves. Creating noew jobs is more important than fighting on useless things.

I agree again. Only the cost of imported steel due to a dysfunctional steel mills is around 400 Bn Rs per year. If this steel is made here, a lot of our downstream industry will prosper. Moreover, our trade balance will be reduced due to less imports and increased exports of the engineering sector.

If i u understood the news correctly, the Steel mill wasn’t operational for a number of years and all these employees were still getting paid.

So basically they were receiving money for sitting home. If this is the case, they are all Free loaders and why should the government be paying them anything?

Majority of them would be the political party workers (ppp), who were overstaffed and unqualified to start with. Aisay haram khoro ko prosecute karna chahiay inn k harami Baap Zardari k saath (in fact Bezamir Bhutto should also be tried in the court even after her death).

You are absolutely right. The dysfunctional mill did not only put pressure on the People's tax money in the form of Bailout packages, but also in the form of accrued interest, depreciation of Plant and equipment and the Salaries + Benefits of the employees. Its a multidimensional fuss which the PPP Govt created and PMLN Govt aggravated.

Now, the 75% of the workforce does not have the requisite skills and qualifications to run the mills. There are only 130 Engineers out of the 9350 employees. Moreover, most of these engineers also are not experienced enough to be entrusted with the responsibility of running such heavy furnaces. It can be lethal.

The entity has already enjoyed the Government support for more than 5 years now. As the other industry is having this privilege only in the times of COVID-19 lockdown.
Realistically, these employees should have been laid off 5 years ago, when the mills were having liquidity issues and did not have enough to pay its employees. They have dragged this matter too far now. It is beyond the Government's capacity to dole out more money on this white elephant, which should be spent on Health Care and the disaster relief packages to the poor people of Pakistan.

Whether its pia or steel mills or k-electric or karachi water board or any other government...every one of them is littered with incompetent people with political background...they don't like to work but want to earn every benefit that the job offers..when the government takes action, they start whining like as if they are the most deserving people...And before anyone starts giving me 'bhashans' please have a look at the package every employee of still mill would be getting...
