The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief becomes the country’s tenth NSA.

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday said that Gen Malik would retain his role as DG ISI, a position he has held since September 2024.

“Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik HI(M), DG (I), shall hold the additional charge of the National Security Adviser, with immediate effect,” the notification stated.

His appointment marks the first time a serving ISI chief will concurrently serve as the NSA.

اسلام آباد (عمر چیمہ) وزیر آباد میں سابق وزیراعظم عمران خان پر ہونے والی فائرنگ اور قاتلانہ حملہ کیس کا ٹرائل اپنے اہم ترین گواہ یعنی عمران خان کی گواہی کے بغیر ہی ختم ہوگیا۔ ان کی جانب سے گواہی نہ دیے جانے کی وجہ سے کئی قیاس آرائیوں نے جنم لیا ہے، خصوصاً اس وقت جب عمران خان حملے کی منصوبہ بندی کا الزام اعلیٰ سرکاری اور عسکری حکام پر عائد کرتے رہے ہیں۔ اس مقدمے کے مرکزی ملزم محمد نوید کو 26 اپریل کو گوجرانوالہ کی انسداد دہشت گردی کی عدالت نے پی ٹی آئی کے کارکن معظم گوندل کے قتل اور 3 نومبر 2022 کو ہوئے حملے کے دوران متعدد افراد کو زخمی کرنے کے جرم میں دو مرتبہ عمر قید کی سزا سنائی تھی۔ اہم بات یہ ہے کہ اگرچہ عمران خان گولی لگنے سے زخمی ہوئے لیکن گوندل کو سابق وزیراعظم کو نقصان پہنچانے کے جرم میں سزا نہیں دی گئی۔ عدالت کے فیصلے میں اس بات کی نشاندہی ہوتی ہے کہ استغاثہ کی متعدد مرتبہ کہنے کے باوجود عمران خان نے بیان ریکارڈ نہیں کرایا۔ عدالت نے اپنے فیصلے میں کہا ہے کہ ٹرائل میں میں طوالت کی وجہ عمران خان کی جانب سے گواہی دینے میں ہچکچاہٹ کا مظاہرہ کرنے کی وجہ سے آئی۔ انہیں متعدد بار طلب کیا گیا، ویڈیو لنک کے ذریعے پیش ہونے کا آپشن پیش کیا گیا، لیکن ہر مرتبہ عمران خان نے اپنے وکیل کی عدم دستیابی کو وجہ قرار دیتے ہوئے حاضری سے انکار کیا۔ بعد ازاں، عدالت نے عمران خان کو ’’غیر ضروری گواہ‘‘ (Given Up Witness) قرار دیتے ہوئے ان کی گواہی کے بغیر ہی کیس ختم کر دیا۔ عدالت نے عمران خان کے رویے پر تنقید کی
