Iran state TV says Ukrainian airplane carrying 180 people crashes near airport in Tehran

A Ukrainian airplane carrying 180 passengers and crew crashed Wednesday near an airport in the capital, Tehran, state TV reported. There was no immediate word on casualties.
The plane had taken off from Imam Khomeini International Airport, the report said. The crash is suspected to have been caused by mechanical issues, it added, without elaborating.

An investigation team was at the site of the crash in southwestern outskirts of Tehran, civil aviation spokesman Reza Jafarzadeh said.

Flight data from the airport showed a Ukrainian 737-800 flown by Ukraine International Airlines took off Wednesday morning, then stopped sending data almost immediately afterward, according to website FlightRadar24. The airline did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The crash came hours after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack targeting two bases in Iraq housing U.S. forces in retaliation for the killing of Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

Moron , No one would miss target an aircraft so deep in Iran , not the US, The most probable scenario is that the junk Irani missile system on high alert anticipating a US strike misfired hitting this passenger aircraft. Just like the Indian missile system had shot down their own heli in Kashmir.

You also need to think just took off mean around the airport even not cross the Tehran city.
Took off does not mean immediately out of the border of country.

Yeah but killing innocent civilians wont make Russians. Also there are many Russians who live in Kiev and probably many Russians were on this plane too.
No sane country will knowingly shoot down a commercial passenger airline.

Being new doesn't mean anything. Remember Boeing's 737 Max 8? That was very new too, it had design flaws and it was grounded.
