Thanks for the correction. I assumed (as i had written so ) while sunnis are not a majority the rest were Ismailis, however in fact the majority are shias and Ismailis are about 20-24 percent (according to different sources on the internet ?) Thanks again..
The question was about why AK has a good standing in Pakistan or elsewhere, so my response was about what is perceived positive about the community beyond his celebrity status.
AKF has worked in GB since early 80s and has helped to open up the region. . However it is not all so rosy because the project was initiated in view of Afghan war/Russian invasion ( and as rumored at that time AKF was merely working as a front for other western organizations and real agenda was militaristic than to build the infrastructure in the region to help the people.
Nevertheless Agha Khan Foundation had set the base of development in the region. It will be helpful if you may let us know the pre and post 80s stats for different demographics for comparison .
However, I'm not a fan of AK at all - partially because of their odious religious beliefs, and mainly because of current corruption at the top offices, lifestyle of their Royale family and their handling of dissidents within the community. Yet we may recognize that Ismaili community is very peaceful for the last 100+ years (regardless of their past collaboration with the British and their checkered history in three countries serving the British raj), and also that the community is very helpful to their community members, and is philanthropic in general to other organizations. They are active in politics in the west but perhaps there is a dark background to it as well; in view of events of 911, Ahmadis and Ismailis was put forth as acceptable Muslims by other religious/political groups, and these two communities became spokesperson of peaceful Islam through inter-faith dialog organizations. This helped them to enhance their political ambitions in the local politics.
