I second the Sparatacus.
It was 1978, where there was no MQM at all. I passed my matric with distinction, and applied for General Duty Pilot commission at PAF. I passed every test and exam, but at the end of CMB exam, they asked me about my height and physique (my height is 5'-11") and the doctor told in front of me "Oye yeh urdu waloN da Munda kewaiN inna lamma hogaya neiN, hor aiy PAF dey wich warna chanhna aiy?" and then they failed me on some gorunds. I have no objection if they failed me, but the sentence I received from the doctor, I havn't forgotten yet even after 31 years.
I asked the saame question to my father and my Taya sahib, they told me that they migrated as Pakistani, became something else.

Can anybody tell me how they feel the pain?

I think u were rejected bcoz of your tallness ,not for the reason that u belonged from urdu speaking family , in GDP they need short boys ,reason their head should not be touch or should not be very close to the roof of the plane.

@Sister Foqia:
Yes you are right, they rejected me on the follwing grounds:
1-Height
2-Left foot
3-Bone in my nose.

I have no objection on my rejection. I know they have very tight criterium for the selection.

My concern is the remark I received from a high ranking officer. That was very commom and open on those days. That's what I wanted to mention here.

Thanks MQM, that behaviour has been changed now and we don't have that kind of jokes any more. People are cautious now.

But imagine the feelings of a 16 years of young boy, who passed all tough testings and was about to get the commission, the emotions were on their peak as to become next Rashid Minhas for the country (nothing less than that ;) ), the whole neighbourhood and the family were waiting for the good news and all of a sudden that youth got a nasty joke and soon after got rejected.

No one cared about the selection criteria on that time, everyone talked about the injustice and this and that.

This was not only me, there were thousands of other young people who suffered from the same kind of behaviour.

That's why those young people formed APMSO and then it turned into MQM and became very popular in Urban Sindh.

Someone did taunting on me that I was not competent for the selection and I was making a lame excuse.

Of course I was not fit for the forces

but

was I entitled for the comment I recieved?

Later I realized that I was not born for the army, but where I am right now, Alhamdullillah, I am satisfied.
There are so many other ways to serve the country.Nothing to mention.

Any person born in Pakistan to a Pakistani born prents and still calling himself/herself a 'muhajir' is a traitor. He/she should be banished from Pakistan for ever.

Barak Hussain Obama is a president of United States of America, he is proud to be called African American and still saying I am an immigrant from Nigeria born with a Nigerian father.

What are all China Towns doing in every big city of the world?
Why Little Italy streets are in everywhere in USA and Canada?
What all Desi Markets are doing in every corner of every city of Europe and North America?
Why Sikhs, after more than 100 years, are still Punjabi in Canada? Why these Sikhs write street names in their areas in Hindi Language?
etc.etc.

None of the above gave any sacrifice to build these countries.

But in Pakistan, Muhajirs made Pakistan, they have every right to live there and to be called with a decent name of Muhajir. This name was given to them by the local population.

They did not choose it. They chose Pakistani instead, but no one accepted and liked this identity of theirs.

Pakpatriot, Please please please. when you are establishing a reason, or an excuse, do not insert a sentence, "since they did not accept" we chose otherwise. What, where, why and who . These are the questions you need to answer.who are these 'They" when did "They" rejected your name as pakistani ? where this matter was resolved and transpired ? what power " They " had to made you change your name from pakistani to Muhajir ? And who gave them the authority to decide ???

Most of you are here....

Pakistani >>>>>> and Punjabi
Pakistani>>>>>>>and Pakhtoon
Pakistani >>>>>>and Sindi
Pakistani>>>>>>and Balouchi
Pakistani>>>>>>and kashmeeri
ETC
ETC
That is why a group whos parents and in my case Grand parents came from India after 1947.
They were only pakistani

They have been given some IDENTITY like Mukkur , Hindustani , Muhajir , Panah Ghuzeen ,etc , etc
They chosed one of the given Identity and that is why you can not blame them for this IDENTITY .

Qasim Bhai:
Please, please, please, read the following facts without having any bias in your mind. You will find every answer of your "what", "where", "when", "who" and "why".

1- In 1952, it was declared in an official documents of Pakistan, the people who came to Pakistan called Muhajireen. I will try to find out the actual document and post it here for you.

2- In 1973 constitution, only province of Sindh was bisected between Urban and Rural Sindh. Why? Any answer of that?

3-Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto first used the sentence when he met G.M. Syed that Sindhis are becoming "RED INDIANS" in sindh.

4-In the daily life, it was very common years ago, and it is still in practice that people call us Muttervey, Mukkar, Panah Guzeen, and Muhajirs etc.etc. You need a proof? Don't go far away, just look at numerous posts only in this website. You will find everything.

6- Isn't it amazing that we all are immigrants in America, but when it comes to Pakistanis, urdu speaking people are still being called as Muhajirs or Bhayye here in America by some of our own Pakistani brothers? What a dilemma my friend.

5- Who gave them authority to change my name from Pakistani to Muhajir? No one, but a mind set that still exists, unfortunately.

I am unable to understand this logic.I myself, won't give a damn about those who call myself anything of the demeaning in nature.I will not count them and give them any significent in making the decision about my Id and who am I.I will never let them set the agenda for me. I am Pakistani and I am not anything other than Pakistani.I may speak different Languages, but at the top , I am Pakistani. I will not let anyone decides for myself what am I going to be.Unfortunately, You got in to these patty issues and became more sensitive regarding your Identity and there where you lost the plot for your future.

That's exactly what we are doing. Whatever they say us, we chose the best and moved forward, now we are working hard for the prosperity of Pakistan.
Just look at the developments in Karachi and Hyderabad, you will find our hard work.
Please change the constitution of Pakistan. Probably, you love it more than me.

I can only have sympathy for you and the thoughts you carry.Brother, This country have more dominant and pressing issues than what Bhutto said way back in 1960's and how and when some idiotic leaders may have said something stupid as those words. As you know, the Punjabi community was also not spared with these kinds of infantile remarks. Sindhi were never let go either without being poked.Pathan always get their shares of these jokes and talks. I can only laugh at them at times and ignore them completely on others since it doesn't hold any water .To be able to capitalized on these jokes and make a drastic decisons of segregating yourself , is not more than an act of childish nature. Anyway, this is my thinking and as I know you will differ from it. Continue on with your thoughts and concepts. I can only hope that serenity will replace aggitation and the rationality will prevail.
