I always wonder about this 'thali ka baingan' attitude of jamaat-e-Islami. Please note that I am admirer of their grass-root politics and organizational capabilities (which are better than anyone, including MQM). Yet their stance on America baffles me:
1. When the US is fighting the ultimate battle to undermine her only nemesis in the world, i.e. USSR, Jamaatis become her partners (and if you read the literature of that era, they don't even *pretend* to be anti-US).
2. When ZAB poses the only serious challenge to the feudal establishment of Pakistan, Jamaatis actively oppose the socialistic policies of the PPP on some bizarre grounds that communism is 'la-deenyat' (assuming Capitalism is somehow a better alternative - yea right!).
3. When a dictator holds election with little transparency, they participate wholeheartedly in them, but five years later when more transparent elections are held, they *boycott* them! wow, how principled!!
4. They take out these USELESS GoAmericaGo rallies, while keeping the masses focused on a foreign enemy, while the local enemy - the feudal lord, the Capitalist, enjoy total freedom from any meaningful political threat. Were the jamaatis truly egalitarian, won't their first target be the local jagirdaar???.

Sindh mein jagir-daar rape kartay hain, private jailain banatay hain, I never see Qazi sahib come and hold them by their 'garibaan'. Sugar crisis mein Jamaat nay kitni sugar-milon pay dhawa bola? Kia sara ghum-o-ghussa Amrika kay liye he reh gaya hay??
