Welcome to the future - Pakistan finally finalises policy for 3G license auction

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has finalised its policy directive for the much awaited auction of 3G licenses in the country.


According to Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman, the four mobile phone companies in the country had shown interest in the auction. The minister added that the policy directive would be approved by the Federal Cabinet Advisory Committee on Thursday.


Rehman added that the stipulation to introduce 4G into the Pakistani market would also be part of the auction.


On September 28 while hearing the petition seeking the completion of the 3G license auction process and the appointment of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman and members, the Supreme Court directed the government to expedite the auction process.

For those asking to go for 4G, must keep in mind that majority devices that are being used by most pakistanis can only support 3G ..... adopt it step by step

Not majority, even in germany its not completely deployed yet, and it would only be good which i hope woul be the case if they deploy HSPA (3.5G) which has much higher data rates upto 40mb downlink as opposed to original 3G networks with 2mb...

that's a surprise. It's been almost 2 years since we have LTE everywhere in Canada

Yea although countries like UK, Germany are technologically very advanced by i guess deploying LTE is not their utmost priority :)

Sir jee million dollar question is who is going to afford this luxury???
I pay $30 for LTE( USA data only ) which is RS 3150/month bhai..........................

In our beloved country how many people can avail such a luxury !!!!

no doubt some need that technology but when we dont have basics(gas ,electricity and sewerage) how can we go for luxury ?

I had given up on 3G or 4G in Pakistan. I was thinking that if we could leverage the big WiMax network that is in Pakistan, that would be pretty cool. But once again PTA never moved in that direction by granting Cellular service to ISPs with WiMax capability.
