The United States has stopped shipments out of Afghanistan, citing the risk to truckers from protests along part of the route in neighboring Pakistan.

There have been anti-U.S. demonstrations in Pakistan in recent days calling for an end to the American drone program that targets militants. So U.S. officials said Tuesday that they had ordered truckers under U.S. contract to park at holding areas inside Afghanistan temporarily to avoid going there.

Mark Wright, a Pentagon spokesman, said the order affects outgoing shipments, that is, equipment and other goods being sent home from military units as their numbers are reduced in Afghanistan. Many supplies coming into Afghanistan for use by remaining troops were long-ago redirected to alternate routes, going through other countries, due to previous problems with Pakistan.

U.S. military halts cargo shipments out of Afghanistan


CNN) -- The U.S. military, facing continuing protests over drone strikes, has halted military cargo shipments from Afghanistan, citing a potential risk to drivers and contractors along the route once it enters Pakistan.
"We are aware protests have affected one of the primary commercial transit routes between Pakistan and Afghanistan. We have voluntarily halted U.S. shipments," Defense Department spokesman Mark Wright said.
Halted operations through the Torkham Gate border crossing impacts more than half of all military shipments out of the war zone each month as American involvement in the war winds down.
On average, the United States ships about 33,000 tons of cargo out of Afghanistan each month.
The action was taken to stop shipments along the route from the border crossing to Karachi "to ensure the safety of the drivers contracted to move our equipment. We anticipate that we will be able to resume our shipments through this route in the near future," Wright said.
If the crossing does not re-open, shipments out of Afghanistan could be made by air, or longer land routes to the north, but both would be more costly in the long run. There is no indication what specific cost would be involved or how long the stoppage could last.
The decision also comes as the United States is trying to get Afghanistan to sign an agreement to keep some U.S. troops in the country after 2014. But the majority of the gear for the 47,000 troops still in Afghanistan will have to be brought out.

mr afridi......u mentioned 65 years of history....if you smoke for a long time period ..you get addicted....very hard to quit all of a sudden....therefore you slow it down and then you can get rid of that....corruption,opportunism,dictatorship,fundamentalism,illiteracy ,bios ness,division and un patriotic acts in our country are happening For 65 years......our whole leadership is murdered..Jinnah,liaquat ali khan,bhuttos and many more...we have to act smartly not jazbati ....every pakistani should know what ghairat is ....ghairat starts from your tongue and finish at stomach...past five years may be were not the best years of our history but.....we have the constitution in it's original form....just from now on start working everything according to it...you will see the difference ....matter of fact ....it's started already improving...people are aware of issues...khan sb working on his agenda in kpk...PPP cleaning up,Karachi mess...noons are cleaning terrorists from colleges and now talking abt killers ...balochistan also improving a bit.....therefore just don't do any rational act that will put all these improvements in vain....once we get together and strong ....drone will stop any way....just pray for unity

پینٹاگون کا کہنا ہے کہ پاکستان میں امریکی ڈرون حملوں کے خلاف جاری احتجاج کے باعث ڈرائیوروں کے تحفظ کی خاطر ایسا کیا گیا ہے۔

پینٹاگون کے ترجمان مارک رائٹ کی جانب سے جاری کردہ بیان میں کہا گیا: ہمیں امید ہے کہ پاکستان کے راستے سامان کی ترسیل مستقبل قریب میں بحال ہو جائے گی۔
یاد رہے کہ افغانستان میں تعینات غیر ملکی افواج کا انخلا سنہ 2014 تک کیا جانا ہے۔

یاد رہے کہ پاکستان کے صوبہ خیبر پختونخوا کی حکمران جماعت پاکستان تحریکِ انصاف کی جانب سے امریکی ڈرون حملوں کے خلاف 23 نومبر سے احتجاج کیا جا رہا ہے اور انھوں نے صوبے سے ہر قسم کی نیٹو سپلائی نہ گزرنے دینے کا اعلان کر رکھا ہے

تحریک انصاف خیبر پختونخوا سے جاری ہونے والے ایک بیان میں تحریک انصاف کے صوبائی ترجمان اشتیاق ارمڑ نے کہا تھا کہ رسد روکنے کے لیے صوبے میں پانچ اضلاع میں دھرنے دیے جائیں گے جن پشاور میں حیات آباد ٹول پلازا کے علاوہ خیر آباد پل، صوابی اور چارسدہ میں موٹر وے انٹر چینج اور ڈیرہ اسماعیل خان ٹول پلازا شامل ہیں۔
پاکستان تحریکِ انصاف کے کارکنوں کی جانب سے نیٹو رسد کے کنٹینرز روکے جانے کے واقعات بھی پیش آئے تھے
