As compared to the $6 billion given by the world to the military government for the 2005 earthquake, the total present pledges so far stand at only $777 million and the actual money received so far is only $82 million.
A spokesman for the Economic Affairs Division confirmed to The News that by the weekend the total aid received in cash stood at $82 million while relief goods worth $60 million had also arrived, making the total foreign aid received at $142 million.
President National Bank of Pakistan Ali Raza while talking to The News confirmed that by the weekend Rs1.92 billion were collected in Prime Ministers Relief Fund. It is worth mentioning here that most of the money deposited in the PMs fund is donated by the public institutions and participation of the general public is almost negligible.
Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani claimed few days back that his government was not facing any credibility crisis and the whole world was donating wholeheartedly and the response is unprecedented. However, the figures given by thetop government officials deny the prime ministers claim. On the other hand, Sindh is demanding Rs550 billion damages, Punjab is asking for Rs80 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwas demand is Rs200 billion and Balochistan needs Rs100 billion. Gilgit-Baltistan wants Rs11 billion and Rs68 billion are wanted by AJK. The United Nations says that so far 70 percent ($325 million) of the UN appeal for $460 million had been funded.

A German television channel in Berlin collected $10 million in one night for the flood-victims in Pakistan. Azerbaijan has donated $1 million in additional aid for the flood victims, bringing the total aid to $2 million.
The citizens of the Netherlands have donated more than 16 million euros during a national campaign to help the flood victims while Turkey deposited $10 million of its $11 million donation in the Prime Ministers Relief Fund.
