Wow! That was very very informative. Thanks for sharing.

...and yes, pakistan govt should take initiative to plant a billion of these trees for multiple benefits, with food source being one of them.

We have to be very careful!!

Bringing foreign plants or trees can backfire big time. During Ayub Khan and also during Zia's government they imported some trees from China and Australia and they all backfired in our country. Today Islamabad has highest levels of allergies because of that Chinese oak that went crazy in our environment.

Natural ecological system is a God's gift and we must be highly careful when trying to tweak or change anything to it. Also we don't have any problem of food or trees in our country.

Pakistan is already blessed with plenty of beautiful trees & food sources. We don't really need such experiments.

Is that why our kids are suffering from malnutrition lack of good food resulting in stunted growth ?

So what do you say of other foods that have been imported into our Region. Strawberries were NOT grown in Pakistan until 1951

Secondly
The Moringa tree is native to northern India, but today it is common throughout the tropical and sub-tropical regions of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Moringa trees grow easily from seeds or cuttings. They grow quickly even in poor soil and bloom 8 months after planting.

Is Pakistan so cursed that it would poison its population. When it grows in abundance close by ?

Chinese oak also came from our neighboring country.

So calm down, I am only asking to be careful. Similar experiments have resulted in disaster in past. Please visit NIH allergy unit in Islamabad and you will realize what you are playing with. Majority of population in Islamabad is suffering from some level of allergies today.

First, Government should conduct high level agricultural research followed by a controlled growth of this plant. Without due diligence, it is absurd and dumb to bring a new plant in our natural ecosystem.

Anyone can grow anything man. People even growing marijuana plants in Pakistan.

If you are so confident, you must contact the government and ask for Research grant to have enough scientific data to prove that it will be safe and will turn in to another disaster.

Believe it or not I emailed Health Ministry and PM's office with all the links and asked someone to take a look at it also refer to the 4th post above. It seems work and research is being done as we speak. I just think more people need to be aware of the benefits (potential)

It grows in areas where nothing much else will and lives for decades

You should try to meet Jahangir Tareen. He is very active in such research and experiments.

You mean people have been falling sick in Islamabad
on a daily basis and there is a hospital full of victims of "Chinese Oak"
since they were planted over fifty years ago
AND

No one decided to cut them down and turn them into high quality furniture

Come on give us proof of this Chinese Oak Killer Disease

During musharraf tenure, there was a mass drive to remove this particular tree. Even army was called to help. But it has been 10 years since and growth is soaring up all over again in wild place.

You must never been to Islamabad or doesn't live there. It's the allergy capital of Pakistan also.
