ISLAMABAD: World No 7 Pakistan defeated World No 26 Italy 5-0 in their opening match of the first qualifying round for the Hockey World Cup 2010 on Saturday at the Metropole Hockey Club Lille, Italy.

According to the reports available here, Pakistan team gave a dominating display right from the beginning to beat their rivals.

Penalty Corner Specialist, Muhammad Sohail netted first goal for Pakistan through a penalty corner in the first half to lead his team 1-0.

In the second half, Sohail struck again by converting another penalty corner. While Muhammad Imran made the scoreline 3-0 by scoring third goal for Pakistan, also through a penalty corner.

Mounting pressure on Italy, Muhammad Zubair and Abdul Hafeen scored one goal apiece before the match was ended.

Pakistan routs Russia 5-0 in hockey WC round

LILLE: Pakistan clinched second consecutive win by defeating Russia 5-0 in second match in Hockey World Cup Qualifying round, Geo News reported Sunday.

Pakistan put up brilliant show from the very commencement of the match played in Frances city of Lille. In the first half, Pakistan got the better of Russia 3-0.

In the second half, Pakistan scored two more goals and established for them an overriding victory.

Pakistans Rehan Butt, Shakeel Abbasi, Sohail Abbas, Muhammed Imran and Abdul Haseem Khan hit goals.

It should be mentioned that Pakistan defeated Italy also 5-0 in the first match.

Pakistan is scheduled to play its third match against France.

In my view new European teams mostly rely on speed cz they lack experience and dribling skills. One handed hockey gives extra support in speeding up. There is no rule to restrict one hand play.

I remember there were few excellent players in Hockey club of Pakistan (Karachi) who take the ball forward with one hand hockey very quickly. usually wingers do this. Abbas Haider was one of them.

LILLE: Pakistan outclassed Japan 6-1 in an important match of the World Cup Qualifying Round here on Thursday.Thus, they have qualified for playing the final of the tournament after this big success.Pakistan dominated the match throughout as Japan could not match them.They were leading the first half 2-0 and maintaining their pressure in the second half they added four goals while Japan could make only one goal.

I believe these six teams are playing this tournament to qualify for World Cup. I meant to ask how many teams among these six will qualify for World Cup tournament. 1 or 2. If only 1 then winning the final of this tournament would be must...... and if 2 then we already qualified??????
