S O L A R - Lights- My Small Solar light System

There is no ban on the import of solar systems. Earlier there were heavy duties on the import of solar systems but PPP govt. in its last days have removed those duties.

Importing solar systems in Pakistan is not allowed. I met an importer last year. He said to me that he can buy anything in the international market and send it to Pakistan except solar systems.

Really ? I heard earlier that a 100watt solar panel provides 25-35watts and that too depends upon solar panel quality. Furthermore, replacement of batteries after every year makes solar system produced electricity very expensive.

Dear CoolDool, the 50% wattage I mentioned is what it can provide in optimum light conditions (what we have for about 5 hours in a day). It also depends upon the type of panel you are buying (monochrome / amorphous etc).

Battery replacement is an overhead and average life of liquid battery is not more than a year. However, you can go for dry battery solution which will last for at least 4-5 years. However, dry batteries are about 2.5 - 3 times expensive than liquid batteries.

Tell me one thing brother can we use these panels without batteries I mean in day time when we have sunlight can we run our appliances directly without using batteries ?

Yes dear, solar panels can be used directly for smaller DC loads. However, the performance will not be optimum since light intensity keeps changing all the day with clouds. Better use a battery even for day time operations.

A practical solution, being implemented these days is solar UPS. The system charges the battery getting power from main 220 (Wapda/KESC) and solar panels simultaneously. This way, even during load shedding in days, the batteries keep charging.
