Chinese companies are leading now in Solar market. You can buy it may be in Pakistan or directly from Chinese companies online or visit solar trade fair in your living country (if solar trade fair available).

Importing solar systems in Pakistan is not allowed. I met an importer last year. He said to me that he can buy anything in the international market and send it to Pakistan except solar systems.

The only problem with solar system is the late return on investment. In the long run it will cost slightly less. The main issue is the amount of power it generates. You can only run low power energy bulbs on the system.

if the wind speed in your area is good, a hybird system(Wind Generator Turbine+ Solar) might work.

it will have to much cost. u can not run high loads like ac oven electric motors. but u can use solar instead of ups for lights and fans.cost will b around 1 lac or bit less then 1 lac a rough guess.

A company in Peshawar sadar quoted me 2 laks for 4 fans and bulbs with some years warranty for battery.

govt has imposed so much tax on solar goods here so people don't go for it,and remain dependent on wapda expensive el;ectricity.otherwise solar is good option here .as sun fries Pakistan 330 days per year as opposed to hardly 150 days in Europe where clouds are the norm

Well the whole system is not much different then a UPS used in Pakistan, except the power source is different. The advantage of your system is that the power source timing is confirmed (day time) while in case of UPS charged from main line is not predictable (load shedding timing keep changing )

Solar panel has normally 10- 20 Years warranty time, depends on company. Battery is questionable but as my knowledge, it should work at least 3 years. I am using it since past 1 year.

You know bro. This light has no load-shedding. And it makes you happy, believe me.

Here in Japan complete solar power solution (AC, TV , Fridge, everything) from Panasonic, sharp are sold for 20 lacs + .Usually they are not cost effective. People are using it because of green energy.
One of advantage here is you can sell back extra electricity to the utility companies. I also heard one can earn carbon credits too for using Solar systems.

Really ? I heard earlier that a 100watt solar panel provides 25-35watts and that too depends upon solar panel quality. Furthermore, replacement of batteries after every year makes solar system produced electricity very expensive.

Solar / Photovoltaic technology is promising for Pakistan. The govt. is providing subsidy on imports of these panels hence we can have them as low as for PKR 70/ watt in wholesale. The average life of solar panel is 10 - 25 years. I have been playing with solar based power solutions for last 3 years. The major issues that one can face is :

1. Replacement of batteries. The average life of liquid battery is not more than a year. They need to be changed and thus add up in cost.

2. Over-rated panels. As far as Chinese solar panels are concerned (about 95% available in market) are very over-rated. One should not expect more than 50 watts from a 100 watt panel.

Yes, the panels can be made at home provided you import raw-material from factory. Solar is ideal solution when you need portable power solution (like at war-fields , forests , hiking etc). I have made a brief case packed prototype of portable solution for my use. However, for a replacement of Wapda / KESC at our homes, I will suggest a solar-thermal solution.

The solar thermal solution becomes more cost-effective and reliable when applied for greater than 500 Watts application. Also, it is ideal for Pakistani climate.

PPP Government in its last days had removed duties on the import of solar system. But still you need to replace batteries after a year or a year and half and that makes solar system very expensive.

I have seen a lot of work done in Czech republic and Vienna on solar Panel. I think our Pakistan is very sunny country and this should be the one not to miss. If anyone is interested in starting this on smaller scale, contact me. We can then source something out to send to Pakistan

You can install solar system without telling government authorities in Pakistan but I guess you need to obtain Government permission to install wind turbines, not sure.
