Power and energy is a big issue in Pakistan. I just wanted attention of Pakistanis to Solar lights. It is not expensive, easy to install and provide good lightening.

This is the System i use at home-

I live in a EU country which has no energy crisis but it is my interest in solar energy and i think people in Pakistan can use this system easily.

I bought this system in a Solar trade fair for 50 € (around 6300 PKR.)from a Chinese company participating in solar trade fair in EU. This system has 4 Bulbs (2 Watt each), 1 Solar Panel (10 Watt- you can install anywhere) and 1 Solar battery Storage Unit is included.

Every sunny day charges battery full and evening i can use free of cost and environment friendly light.

Real PICS of My Small Solar System (Made 13 & 14.04.2013)

how long it will last? usually electricity generation from solar energy using photovoltic cells cost mush more than from other sources

You can't install full solar system in your house as its illegal and WAPDA can take it away :P
Legally they are bound to provide electricity (if they dont/cant thats another thing) but no one can install electricity supply in their property as it is illegal under the law.

Solar panel has normally 10- 20 Years warranty time, depends on company. Battery is questionable but as my knowledge, it should work at least 3 years. I am using it since past 1 year.

You know bro. This light has no load-shedding. And it makes you happy, believe me.

@PakRevolution

I wish I had $$ to help you market solar in Pakistan and sell at a large commercial level. Law can easily changed to accommodate the new invention thru TV blitz etc.

Alas!!!!

I heard somethings like that before, but i am sure next govt. will screw up Wapda.

Pakistanis can have both solar and wapda until solar is improved to replace wapda. if solar can generate, say, 2000 watts, 16 100watt bulbs could be easily illuminated.

You have asked a question which requires some work in advance. You have to find out, how much electricity you need per day.

I think a mid size family in Pakistan has a requirement of 1.8 to 3.5 KW (Kilowatt) per day. Behind every electronic item you can see how much watt/hour is its energy consumption. Or you check details on electric Bill and find out your consumption.

Putting every thing on Solar requires big investment, i say roughly 3-6 Lakh rupees.

I am trying to make a home made Solar Panel , if i am successful i will share it here so that all can try

(clap)(clap)(clap)(clap)(clap)

I have also knowledge to make it at home. Well Done. Go ahead, Pakistan need people like you.

Thanks i am just facing difficulty in keeping the Plates Dust Free when coating ,

Are you using flux Pen? That helps fast molding process lot. Home made Panels are cost effective but need lot of practice and dust free place. Make it in close garage or room.

Great idea/project OP, but as far as I know people have had their solar setups confiscated by Wapda.

I think it's more to do with tax collection through electricity bills than to do with power, people are currently forced to pay addional taxes if they want electricity, to make up for all those big tax chores essentially the electric bills contain a general consumption tax.

If you got solar power and went off-grid how would they make you pay?, if solar power stations were made to feed into the national grid then it would help cut load shedding and diversify power generation, but this will require 5-10yrs to plan, fund, and build.

Solar for each household will be very costly, and leave it out of the hands of those who can't afford electricity now, the poor it would be most likely used by middle income families.

Solar torches, chargers, lights are the solution for most pakistanis which are not too expensive.

Solar / Photovoltaic technology is promising for Pakistan. The govt. is providing subsidy on imports of these panels hence we can have them as low as for PKR 70/ watt in wholesale. The average life of solar panel is 10 - 25 years. I have been playing with solar based power solutions for last 3 years. The major issues that one can face is :

1. Replacement of batteries. The average life of liquid battery is not more than a year. They need to be changed and thus add up in cost.

2. Over-rated panels. As far as Chinese solar panels are concerned (about 95% available in market) are very over-rated. One should not expect more than 50 watts from a 100 watt panel.

Yes, the panels can be made at home provided you import raw-material from factory. Solar is ideal solution when you need portable power solution (like at war-fields , forests , hiking etc). I have made a brief case packed prototype of portable solution for my use. However, for a replacement of Wapda / KESC at our homes, I will suggest a solar-thermal solution.

The solar thermal solution becomes more cost-effective and reliable when applied for greater than 500 Watts application. Also, it is ideal for Pakistani climate.
