Rizvi's rabid criticism of main Islamic preachers of Tablighi jamaat and especially his unwelcome criticism of Zakir Naik has not been taken too well by Islamic circles.
It is true that Tablighi jamaat is not exactly the jamaat of true scholars but it is the only effective street level reformist movement of Islam in Pakistan of which I have seen many people benefit from lower and middle classes .
It is true that their current leader has this tendency of creating an atmosphere of "spiritual catharsis" and weeping which Rizvi has criticized as suggestive of making muslim feel powerless in a hostile and militant world arrayed against Islam .
Rizvi's criticism of Zakir Naik is unfortunate because Zakir's task of preaching in the middle of Kafir country is very very hard , his techniques as student of comparative religion makes that task only marginally easier in a hostile environment and Modi government is hellbent of involving him in terrorism charges and financial irregularities . Just because he is a doctor and is bestowed with a new type of logic and scholarship of science does not mean that Rizvi old methods of scholarship are superior . There has always been an element of jealousy between Madrassa Mullahs and medical doctors or technocrats taking to study of Quran and writing Tafsirs. The Tablighi supremo and Zakir Naik perhaps have partial and complete medical background.
Rizvi shows himself as a Pro shia scholar which in current scenario of a adverse Iran cannot lead to his permanent rise as Iran sides with India in the greatest Shia sunni power struggle since the Ottoman war between Ismael shah and them is going gunder khamenei .
Rizvi's greatest legacy and there is infact five he has left so far .
1. Complete rout of secular parties like PTI, PMLN(Newtype), PPP over Qadiani issue to the extent that even bajwa was trembling to intervene even though some say his agencies were arranging this proshia sunni movement to rise versus traditional allies of army like LET etc.
2. A resurgence of interest in poet Iqbal of which he seems to be good scholar though some of his interpretations need a review again . Offcourse his knowledge of Iqbal poetry to me was much more than that of Javed Iqbal his son.
3. A criticism of toothlessness of certain versions of Islam such as Tablighi who for years sided with PPP the culturally Anti islam and Anti sunni party but not now .
4. A resurgence of spirit of times of 1920s to 1950s , and interpretation of Islam in places like Lahore , Gujranwala and Sagodha divisions which were a core sites of Pakistan movement and remain the site of Core Raw power of militancy and robust ness of Pakistan versus India .
5. Offcourse likes of Rizvi have elated souls like ours in challenging secularism and moribund western style Anti Islam judiciary which we always wanted to take on , but overall he does not belong to our class , the western educated , same as was case with Tablighi jamaat or JUI or even Jamaat . This class barrier is main hurdle between lack of success in establishing control by such parties . But two changes are being imposed on our society by democracy and continuous war in the Afghanistan , these are replacement of city dwellers by villagers in power houses and by pashtoon share increase as more and more recruitment from villages and pashtoon area is needed to win this war . A bit like late Aurengzeb period . This means that Rizvi and such like have greater say in coming days and this explains why Imran needs Sameeul Haq to even survive in power .
History cannot favour like of Rizvi and likes of Maryam Nawaz at the same time , one category has to fall .
