According to the experts like Lewis Rowel (1984), Music is a least tangible and perishable form of art. The so called objectification of Music for such experts is presentable in fixed notation, pitches, time durations, ratios, solmization syllables (To present notes to the basic set of functional scalar members), instruments and recordings in order to preserve the treasure trove of music composers for centuries.

It is interesting to note here that Music in its current form is said to be a variant of ‘Mousike’ that is in return a derivative for of Muses (Sources of inspiration of Arts in Greek mythology). These sources of inspiration clearly allude to the entities in divine realm that approximate it to harmonious nature of universe.

For centuries music has been valued for its constructive role in pleasing, relaxing and regulating the soul of an individual in order to make him sane and tranquil with his immediate environment and also been a subject of vilification in the same breath to stimulate the negative energies and outpouring of emotions in an extreme form.

The positive value of music can be related to the icons like Mohd. Rafi sahab, who used to nurture the notations of music with their divine and soulful voices and render the same perishable form of art with immortality.

Notable lyricist and director Gulzar also once remarked that the piece of music which we use to hear in our lives are not merely the simple works of some tones and rhythms but the embodiment of burning of blood and soul of the creative persons involved to make it an end product.

How quickly we forget the immortals like Rafi sahab who rendered his soul in his professional life of 36 years to make us cherish the treasure trove of pieces of music till this day. Time certainly seems to stand still when one can hear the gems of this virtuoso and definitely makes its backward journey to the times such gems were created to remind us the listeners that like the inspirations of such divine notes we mortals also have some sort of affinity with that divine realm.

On his 35[SUP]th[/SUP] death anniversary I have nothing but huge respect and regard for this immortal singer of the twentieth century whose voice still haunts my mind and rejuvenates every fiber of my being whenever I happen to stumble upon his iconic renditions for Indian film industry.
