Quran Inquiry

Asalamoalaikum

Brothers and sisters I have a small question regarding a particular verse. It may not be exact, the way I say it and I ask Allah's forgiveness for it. The verse is:

"If you deny me in front of them, I will deny you in front of them."

There is a variation:
"If you deny me in front people, I will deny you in front of Allah."

The reason I ask is, because I have seen this quote in many facebook posts where it is mentioned that "Allah says so in the Quran." But nobody posts which surah and verse. However I have read a little of the bible and there is a similar verse in the Bible.
"But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven." - Mathew 10:33

I am looking for the Quranic reference of the verse that many people say is in the Quran or perhaps the people are mistaken and its in a hadith? Please shed some light.

Its a Hadith:

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"Allah the Almighty said: 'I am as My servant thinks I am. I am with him when he makes mention of Me. If he makes mention of Me to himself, I make mention of him to Myself; and if he makes mention of Me in an assembly, I make mention of him in an assembly better than it. And if he draws near to Me an arm's length, I draw near to him a fathom's length. And if he comes to Me walking, I go to him at speed."

[Buhkari, Muslim, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn-Majah]

By the way Islamic sources mention that both Christians and Jews were given books and Islam is the continuation of same message. So it very likely that even after distortion you will find passages in their books which are similar to those found in Quraan.

While it may seem its similar, but there is a big difference between this hadith and the sentence I have posted. Anyway, I think it is a distortion and people do not even realize it. Good to know. :)
