I have lots of cousins and friends in the middle east and they are very satisfied there. Except that they don't have their travel documents with them, they are not that concerned. Re 'modern slavery', one can find lots of such examples in US as well where 'undocumented' immigrants are exploited pretty much along the same lines as they can't go to police. You see those kind of news every now and then.
While I am all about human rights and equality, please keep this fact in mind that no one was forced to go to any of these countries to work. It was their choice with all factors considered. Most of them, if not all, knew the working conditions they might see there along with travel restrictions. Not justifying any cruelty they are facing, I am just saying that this was part of the package they signed up for 'upfront'.
Moving out to a whole new country with nothing in common (not even religion sometimes) is a HUGE decision and should be a very calculated move. Despite all the stories we have all heard, it will still be very hard to find many people NOT interested in going over to middle east or anywhere else to find work.
God bless us all!
