Punjabi believe that they are superior to every body else in physics, strength, power, bravery, looks, beauty and masculinity. Punjabis also believe that they have produced the greatest Urdu poets than any other region of Pakistan and though their accent is different but they are more literally qualified than their counterparts.

Punjabis also believe that their language is one the oldest and ancients languages of the world and rich in literature, music, culture, folk traditions and better than others.

But, Punjabis also believe that their national language is Urdu and as patriotic Pakistanis, they advise their children to speak in Urdu at home as well as outside their homes. Punjabis are emphatically and immensely proud of their mother tongue 'Punjabi' but they are also equally possessive of their national language, Urdu.

Punjabis believe rightly or wrongly that they are more patriotic than every other Pakistanis and better in many respects.

I have spend considerable amount of time in Lahore during my school and college days and have some very close Punjabi friends. The reason they prefer Urdu for their kids is becuase they consider it more refined and polished language than Punjabi. Patriotism has nothing to do with it. For e.g. I am not aware of any difference between addressing an elder vs someone of your own age or younger in Punjabi language. In Urdu, we are always taught in our home to start with 'Aap' when speaking to elders and 'Tum' is allowed for same age or younger ones. In this example, it is easier to teach kids that your elders deserve special respect when addressing them. I will not go as far as calling it an 'inferiority complex' but educated Punjabis definitely prefer Urdu over Punjabi for their kids.
