Solar is expensive unless govt subsidized it. Currently there is ridiculous amount of duties on import. So govt is curbing its use rather thn making it viable. Plus Batteries of good quality are not available here. So a big no, unless u can throw the money and expect nothing dont go for it
Currently on Alibaba u can see china can supply .5 - .75 $ per watt and in this article its 1$ which is double. U do the maths

the initial high cost of buying a system is the main factor as well the cost of replacing batteries later.
The main reason is that the govt doesnt want people to go off grid, thus the high import tariffs as once you go off grid you wont be paying all the additional charges and taxes with your electricity bills that along with other regressive taxes go to the treasury instead of wealth/income taxes as with most developed/uncorrupt taxation systems. you go for who can afford to pay the most, not who can be forced to pay the most.
If you were designing the electricity system from scratch then this is what you would do, small local power generation especially solar is the obvious solution and maybe the only solution if people not currently connected to the grid want power in the future.

سب کچھ ممکن ہے اس ملک ميں ہي سولر پينلز کا يونٹ لگاديں اگر سولر پينلز کا يونٹ پروڈکشن مہنگا لگے تو سولر سيلز کا يونٹ بھي اسي ملک ميں لگاديں پيداواري لاگت کو نصف کرليں اور پاکستان ہي ميں سولر انرجي کے پلانٹ لگاليں بجلي بھي اپني سولر سيلز بھي اپنے نتيجہ نہ زيادہ خرچہ نہ مہنگي بجلي

Yes i am an engineer but frankly the making of plant for all thins required 10's of million, may be billion rs. Plus this technology of solar cells is just 20% we need some better technology and need like 5000 MW plant

I have said already without govt withdrawing import levy and giving 50% subsidy it is just a child's dream. A normal tubewell cost 3 lakh and solar one cost 30 lakh so u cant justify the cost . same case with common house hold u need atleast 2KW load for a single house to make it independent of grid. currently that system would be somewhere 2 million a pop atleast so disappointing and unaffordable for the vary people who needed it , but only affordable by those who dont need it

Well there is a great potential for Banking sector if they start leasing this equipment, like they do in many western countries. However, this still is a solution for people from middle and upper middle class. This is not a solution for the lower middle and lower class typically, who are the main sufferers of this dilemma of power shortage in our country.
This problem can be solved if Govt starts investing in this technology as to say augment the National power grid. Such programs are already underway in Germany, where they have recently installed the world's biggest solar power park.
However, I am very much in favor of Wind and tidal power, since the equipment's' cost is very low, the production cycle is 24 hrs a day (unlike solar which has on 6 to 8 hours production) therefore the requirement of the backup battery banks is also low, the construction is simple and therefore repair and maintenance also comes handy. In many western countries, they are using wind technology to power the machinery on agricultural farms, where they do not connect them to the national grid and saves the money for laying down the long transmission lines (cabling, pole and transformers etc) and instead of it, they give a farm or a group of farms their very own power plant.
Well, one good thing about these technologies is that if Govt invest in them, it decreases the dependence on foreign resources like oil and gas etc, therefore the Govt's gets less pressurized and influenced by their resource providers. Furthermore, you can make good financial and economic plans since you can predict that until the life of the plant/its replaceable components, the cost of energy remains nearly constant, unlike the thermal energy, which is heavily dependent on volatile oil and gas prices. Now, once the issue of pricing is resolves, there is very less likelihood of Govt departments gettin ginto clash with each other like we have problems in OGRA, NEPRA, OGDCL and WAPDA etc. Therefore, all these quadrants can work smoothly and can be of much benefit for the nation.
It seems that if our governments are really up to making Pakistan a truly independent and a prosperous state, then they should seriously think upon investing into these technologies, rather than wasting their money, resources and time in carrying out feasibility studies on Coal-Gas power plants, every one can spend a good one hour on the internet and find that the current technology is not feasible in any means, anywhere in the world.

1) The solar panels cannot be the only source of electricity for a household as they only work during daylight.
2) The solar generated electricty cannot be stored in batteries as it is DC. Although they do come with inverter (to convert DC to AC) but most of the international solar companies do not recommend storing the electricity as it is very costly.
So the only way solar electricity is used in until the daylight lasts.

آغا وقار پاني سے گاڑي چلانا چاہ رہا تھا جسے دنيا کا کوئي سائنسدان قبول نہ کرتا مگر شمسي بجلي ايک حقيقت ہے اور بجلي کي مدد سے بجلي کے بڑے جنريٹر چلا کر زيادہ مقدار ميں بجلي بنائي جاسکتي ہے
