PPP to reopen ZAB trial: Awan

PPP awaits parliament's approval to have ZAB trial reopened.
LAHORE:
Law minister, Babar Awan has said that as soon as the parliament gives its approval, the PPP will file a reference with the Supreme Court to revisit Zulfiqar Ali Bhuttos trial.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore on Sunday, Babar Awan said that Article 186 of the Constitution gives government the right to request a revisit for any past trial.
Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was removed as the Prime Minister of Pakistan in a military coup and a murder case was launched against him. The court found him guilty on the murder charge on February 6, 1979 by a thin 4-to-3 majority among nine judges, presided by then Chief Justice of Pakistan, S. Anwarul Haq. Bhuttos death sentence was executed on April 4, 1979.
The Law Minister said that the government respects the judiciary and PPP leaders, Sharjil Memon and Taj Haider who have been served contempt notices will face the court. The apex court on Saturday served contempt of court notices to two ruling Pakistan Peoples Party members Haider and Memon, also a provincial legislator, for calling a strike and using contemptuous language against the Supreme Court judgment invalidating the appointment of former NAB chairman Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah. The court has summoned them on April 1 to explain their actions.
Awan further explained that the courts verdict is public property and everybody has the right to agree or disagree with it.
The Law Minister criticized the Punjab government, saying the provincial administration has cut the educational budget short to make room for developmental projects.
