ISLAMABAD: The Ministry for Information and Broadcasting has paid Rs 3.5 million to different writers for writing articles in support of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and an audit has declared these payments illegal. According to the audit report 2016, the Press Information Department (PID) principal officer paid different writers to publish articles in favour of the government. The total amount paid to these writers was Rs 3.5 million, which was paid from the national exchequer. The report also stated that Rs 4.2 million was paid to writers for writing PM's speeches.
According to reports, Rs 80,000 were paid to Ali Akbar Abbas and Rs 100,000 were paid to Talha Mehmood, while Khawaja Naveed Aslam is being paid Rs 100,000 monthly. The report states that the PID spent Rs 3.2 million on booking rooms for the said journalists in different hotels. These expenses have been declared illegal.
