QUETTA: General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff, said that after successful security challenges Pakistan is on its way to lasting peace and stability.
The Army Chief shared his views on national security in his address to student officers and staff faculty at Command and Staff College in Quetta. Pakistan is undergoing an evolutionary process of journeying to enduring peace and stability after it has overcome challenges in recent years, he stated.
“The process may be difficult but on a positive trajectory. We need to stay steadfast and carry forward the efforts towards set national objectives,” he added.
After a number of military terrorist attacks and particularly following Operation Zarb-e-Azb and Operation Radd-ul-Fassad Pakistan had achieved relative peace. Despite sporadic attacks, these operations resulted in a significant decrease in terrorist violence.
Local and international think tanks have recognized this constant decrease in violence year after year. The Pakistan Peace and Studies Institute (PIPS) recorded a 29% decline in Pakistan's terrorist attacks in 2018 compared with 2017.
The army chief has recognized and praised young officers for their contribution and performance in counter-terrorism operations and during the recent standstill along the eastern frontier.
He referred to recent hostilities with India, where the Pakistan Air Force shot down two Indian Warplanes in dogfights one day earlier in response to Indian fighter jets ' airstrikes near military targets in Indian Occupied Kashmir on February 27, this year.
The Chief of the Army has also thanked the officers for their work to address and to prevail over the future challenges of national security.
