Pakistan is now the 7th country to block internet access and cellphone service nationwide on Election Day
Following table lists seven (7) countries, ranked by the strength of their passports, with details about their regime types and instances of internet blockages during elections. Zambia, with a hybrid regime, has the strongest passport among these countries. Uganda, Niger, and Chad, all with authoritarian regimes, follow in passport strength. The Republic of the Congo and Iran, also authoritarian, have weaker passports. Pakistan, recently downgraded to an authoritarian regime, has the weakest passport and experienced internet blockage in 2024.
