Pak army admits links with Taliban leader Mullah Omar

Pakistan's military has offered to play a broker between the US and the Taliban, but in return it wants concessions from Washington over
Pakistan military spokesman Maj Gen Athar Abbas acknowledged in an interview with the news channel that Pakistan's military was not only in contact with Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar but that it can bring him and other commanders to the negotiating table with the US.

The acknowledgment of on-going communication with Taliban forces using sanctuary in Pakistan to launch military strikes against US troops in neighbouring Afghanistan is part of a new diplomatic overture to help the Obama administration find an end to the long-running conflict, CNN said.

But Abbas told the channel that in return for any role as a broker between the US and the Taliban, Pakistan wants concessions from Washington over Islamabad's concerns with longtime rival India.

CNN said senior US officials had told it that the Obama administration is willing both to talk to top Taliban leaders and to raise some of Pakistan's concerns with India.

With NATO's Afghan force commanders conceding the military fight against the Taliban in key areas of Afghanistan is at a "stalemate" and that a recent influx of American combat troops is hoped to break the deadlock, the consensus among military and diplomatic figures in the region is that the US cannot win the war in Afghanistan militarily.

Most believe a resolution to the conflict will ultimately be a political, and economic, one rather than a military victory that will necessitate negotiations with the Taliban, the channel said.

Such a resolution will have to be struck with the involvement of Pakistan, India, Iran and possibly Saudi Arabia, as well as NATO and the US, CNN said.

And with the Pakistan military, with its intelligence service, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) directorate, now going public with its offer to act as broker to help initiate talks, this could be the first opportunity for a breakthrough in ending the Afghan war that began with the US invasion in 2001, it said.

Abbas told CNN after its "very intense relationship" with militants during the fighters' alliance with the US during the Soviet war in Afghanistan, the Pakistan military is now still in contact with Taliban commanders such as Mullah Omar, Jalalladin Haqqani, Mullah Nazir and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of the militant Hizb-e-Islami group.

"That's right, the ISI was in the forefront of the whole struggle against the Soviets. Now, maintaining the contacts with the organisations (like Mullah Omar's Taliban and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar) doesn't mean that that state policy is (to be) providing them physical support or the funding or training," Abbas said.

After the 9/11 attacks Pakistani policy to support the groups did a "U-turn", he said.

There is no secret agency in the world who has no link in other organizations.

If they say they do not have any link in other organizations that means they have to improve their work or close their secret agency.

Right Spart....
Every intelligence agency has likns with its friends and foes , and like we know Afghan Taliban are our own breed , to some extent we still need them to curb indian control in afghanistan , and the way things are going Americans are down to their knees and want to bring taliban to table and win this war diplomatically which is nearly impossible to win in the field.

Even american , indian , russian etc agencis have links with talibans clear evidence is those small groups operating in pakistan against pakistan they have got american weapons, communications and intel from them .

Pakistani intelligence is playing this game wisely. They have seperated afghan talibans from so called anti-pakistani talibans .
Now while pakistan is suffering more casualties in northern area , nato troops are suffering too in helmand province of afghanistan ? is this a co-incidence ????

well hats off for pak intel for playing fair game in favour of pakistan ....but remember it takes 2 years to win a war in battle field but takes 2 minutes to loose it on table ( army in the field and zardari at tables)

God Bless Pakistan....[/b]

Us dept....
lets look at evidince provided by india to prove terror attack was sponsored by pakistan.
1- A match box
2- A sweet wraper
3- A page of pakistani news paper
4-Intelligence report that they were dropped in mombay by pakistani NAVEL SHIPS
5- Pakistani sim cards

Now all of that can easily be obtained by any one from any where but still its a big evidence against pakistan..right.

in case of these Traitor Tahreek e taliban ......they got american weapons ( can you tell me how many american convoys have been looted by tahreek e taliban ...none as far as i know ...so how have they got american weaponary)

2- Clear cut Intelligence reports that they are getting money and intel and logistic support from indian and american intels in afghanistan

3- who is paying thareek e taliban for all that massacare in pakistan? i bet no wealthy arab ..but poor india and america.

4- This is a very vague claim that because america is in financial difficultie it wont support anti pakistani talibans.....
my friend...america was in very bad financial state in 1980 but supported anti russian movement, america is in poor state today but still pumping more money and troops in afghanistan ? why ...because they expect to earn more money and expect to expand their rule......
