Operation Odyssey Dawn

Operating under the authority provided by U.N. Security Council resolution 1973, coalition forces, composed of military assets from the United States, France, United Kingdom, Italy and Canada, launched on March 19, 2011 Operation Odyssey Dawn against targets inside Libya and aimed at protecting civilians from attacks perpetrated by pro-Muammar Al-Qadhafi forces.



Acting under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, which provides for the use of force if needed, UNSC Resolution 1973 was adopted on March 17, 2011, by 10 votes to zero, with five abstentions. UNSC Resolution 1973 specifically:

Authorizes Member States that have notified the Secretary-General, acting nationally or through regional organizations or arrangements, and acting in cooperation with the Secretary-General, to take all necessary measures, notwithstanding paragraph 9 of resolution 1970 (2011), to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack in the [COLOR=blue ! important][FONT=inherit ! important][COLOR=blue ! important][FONT=inherit ! important]Libyan[/FONT][/FONT][/COLOR][/COLOR] Arab Jamahiriya, including Benghazi(...)

For the record EU does not want Libyan refugees so they try to stop civil war. UN have to feed refugees. UN try to stop civil war.
Or do you think that Egypt, Algeria or Tunisia will give money to UN to feed Libyan refugees. UN is still helping Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
Refugees try to go to europe or even north america.

EU and UN watched that Libyans are fleeing so they passed this resolution. Or you can as usual blame USA, for the control of oil of a muslim country.
