Woman and child development minister Imarti Devi courted controversy on Tuesday saying "there is nothing wrong in cooking inside a toilet."
"You should understand that if a partition exists between a toilet and kitchen, there is nothing wrong in preparing food," she told a news agency on Tuesday.
"These days, even in our homes we have attached bathroom," Imarti Devi said.
The minister's statement came a day after visuals of a toilet seat being used for preparing mid-day meals for the anganwadi children in Silanagar Pokhar village in Shivpuri district shocked people. The village is located about 350km from Bhopal. Following the controversy, an inquiry was ordered.
The food was prepared for more than 50 anganwadi children. When the local reporters visited the spot, they found the kitchen material used for preparing food placed on the toilet seat and the meal was being prepared at a little distance from the seat.
"A self-help group had taken control of the toilet and was using it as a temporary kitchen. Action is being taken against the anganwadi supervisor and workers involved," women and child development officer of Shivpuri Devendra said.
