According to WHO, approximately one million people commit suicide each year worldwide, that is about one death every 40 seconds or 3,000 per day.

Suicide is a major sin. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) stated that the one who commits suicide will be punished with something like that with which he killed him/herself.

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever throws himself down from a mountain and kills himself will be throwing himself down in the Fire of Hell for ever and ever. Whoever drinks poison and kills himself will be sipping it in the Fire of Hell for ever and ever. Whoever kills himself with a piece of iron will have that iron in his hand, thrusting it into his belly in the Fire of Hell for ever and ever.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5442) and Muslim (109),

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. It is estimated that about 17% of the world's population will have suicidal thoughts in their lifetime.

Unfortunately you can't shame everyone into getting rid of their suicidal thoughts by telling them that suicide is harm. Can we please remove the taboo around mental health issues so people can seek some professional help.

According to WHO, suicide is the second leading cause of deaths amongst 15-29 age group globally. If you notice some symptoms in your child, please look into it immediately instead of brushing it aside as rebellion or temper tantrums of the youth.
