M Zulqernain Lahore, Sept 6 (PTI) Former premier and main opposition PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif today asked Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to stop President Asif Ali Zardari from obstructing the implementation of the Supreme Court's orders."Prime Minister Gilani should ensure the removal of all hurdles in the way of the judiciary and he should stop President Zardari from creating hurdles in this regard," he said.Sharif made the remarks after reporters sought his views on National Accountability Bureau Prosecutor General Irfan Qadir's refusal to relinquish his post in accordance with a Supreme Court judgement.Qadir told the media in Islamabad that he was appointed by the President, who alone could sack him.Sharif said his party had supported the Pakistan People's Party-led government at the centre on crucial constitutional amendments so that it could strengthen hands of national institutions, including the judiciary. Responding to another question from reporters, Sharif said it was "too late" for the government to convene a conference of all political parties, as proposed by the Prime Minister, for devising a joint policy to cope with the devastating floods. "We will not support this idea (as it may not be result-oriented)," he said. Criticising Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain's repeated comments calling for "martial law-like" action against feudal lords and corrupt politicians, Sharif said: "It can be a demand of Pakistan's enemies and not of the well-wishers of the country.Martial law has been tried in the past only to learn that it is a problem and not a solution to any problem." Referring to a spate of recent suicide attacks and incidents of terrorism, he said those who were taking the lives of innocent people were not humans. "We will continue struggling against terrorism and defeating the terror groups instead of accepting defeat at their hands," he said. Recent suicide attacks were part of a "big conspiracy" to destabilise the country but the government, with the help of the people, will defeat terrorists, he said.PTI MZ RHL
