ISLAMABAD: Beleaguered Chairman of Nadra Tariq Malik has responded strongly to the charges leveled by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan including offshore business companies and his educational qualifications.
Responding to the charges through a close relative Tariq Malik told The News that Nadra Technologies Limited (NTL) was a public limited company, duly registered with the Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
The Nadra owns all of its shares, and has two directors from the ministries of Finance and Interior. It takes part in the international bids, he said, adding that nothing was secret about it. Reputed chartered accountants’ firms have been conducting its annual audit.

The relative conceded that Tariq Malik had three passports, one the ordinary Pakistani one, the other being the official one in his capacity of the Nadra chairman, and the third Canadian one that he has been using in his foreign travels.
He said that the Nadra was making passports and ID cards in 13 foreign countries and has offices in several states to make cards for overseas Pakistanis.
This kind of elaborate network and a large staff necessitated frequent foreign visits by the Nadra chairman for which not a single penny was ever taken from the Interior Ministry.
Reacting to another charge, the relative said that Tariq Malik earned certifications as IT professional from the JFK School, Stanford University and Harvard University by attending short courses.
He refuted the claim that Tariq Malik employed his close relatives in the Nadra. There is not a single instance to the effect, he said.
