Musharraf strongly advocated the construction of the Kalabagh dam in 2005

In December 2004, then President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf, announced that he would build the dam to serve the larger interest of Pakistan. However, on 26 May 2008, the Federal Minister for Water and Power of Pakistan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, said that the "Kalabagh Dam would not be constructed" and that the project had been cancelled due to "opposition from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and other stakeholders, the project was no longer feasible"


In 2005, President General Pervez Musharraf strongly advocated the construction of the Kalabagh dam, but said that any decision in this regard would have to be taken by the people.

The president, who addressed his first public meeting in the NWFP after the May 2002 referendum, spoke at length on the merits of building Kalabagh dam as opposed to the Bhasha dam.

It was significant that the president chose to speak on the controversial issue in Nowshera which, according to the dam's opponents, will suffer most in terms of dislocation of people and loss of fertile land in case the Kalabagh dam is built.

Yes we remember; first Mush said we will make it by hook or by crook, but dont know why he couldn't make it.

The Sindhi nationalist and ANP folks apposed i guess. they said Punjab will benefit while Sindh and KPK will suffer. Musharraf even proposed constitutional guarantee for both provinces, but those so called champion of constitutions did not even trust the constitutional method.

I dont know any DAM built in Any Country where there was no opposition to it. Hoover and Three gorges dam also faced strongest opposition. But the governments of the WORLD take these decisions in the largest interest of Countries, people.

Musharraf used Kalabagh damn slogan only to pacify punjabi public...I mean can you find any reason for a person who:
1. Backed away from Decades old pakistani policy in Kashmir?
2. Decades old Pakistani policy regarding Afghanistan and gave amreeka full access to many locations in Pak?
3. Who he kills a Baluch leader (Since than Baluchistan has seen worst days of violence?)

And that person did not have the courage to force ANP aor any other sindhi who were all in his government one way or the other?

My dear friends, he was never there to do anything good for Pakistan....Even today....if ANP is against it then how come PTI don't approve a resolution in the assembly (KPK)...

Hindus have made scores of dams in past 3 decades and look what we have done.....I think every one who is for such dams they should force their parliament members to speak for it instead of writing on forums
