Luqman teams up with ARY
LAHORE - Since the Mediagate scandal that hit the headlines a few weeks ago, the media in Pakistan has been shaken to the core. Each development in this story is as bizarre as the next.
In early June, Mubashir Luqman quit Dunya News following the leakage of an off-air footage of an interview with property tycoon Malik Riaz. All hell broke loose as the TV channel and the anchorpersons of the show, Luqman and Mehr Bukhari, were accused of running a planted interview. Rumours were rife on the social media that Luqman was rejoining Dunya News but he rejected the reports, while confirming that he was joining ARY TV network and would soon be hosting a show on the channel. “I’m joining ARY after resolving my issues amicably with Dunya News,” he told Pakistan Today.
There were also reports that Sana Bucha, anchorperson of Geo News talk show Lekin, had left the channel in protest against the rehiring of Amir Liaqat Hussain of the Alam Online fame. However, Sana has denied that she has resigned from her position at Geo, saying she has no issues with Amir Liaqat’s hiring as the Vice President of the entire Geo Network, Group Executive Director and Editor Religious Affairs. The “Doctor” had embarrassed himself and the entire network when a leaked YouTube video showed Liaqat making fun of a woman who had called him with a problem and using street language off-air.
