'MQM is not quitting govt for the sake of democracy' December 2010
KARACHI / ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Monday said that the party had quit the federal cabinet, but was not quitting the government for the sake of democracy.
Addressing MQM workers via telephone from London, the MQM chief said that the party had supported the government in difficult times and that President Asif Ali Zardari had made several promises, but failed to fulfill them.
Hussain also said that the federal cabinet was making decisions without consulting MQM ministers. He said that if the government was not willing to follow their advice, it should at least pay attention to their recommendations.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday finally re-joined the central government with the induction of its three legislators in the federal cabinet. The development has shored up the Pakistan Peoples Party-led coalition government ahead of next years budget.
Dr Farooq Sattar and Babar Khan Ghouri took oath as federal ministers while Dr Nadeem Ihsan as minister of state in a ceremony held at the Presidency.

MQM Chief Altaf Hussain says that from now on the countdown starts for the devastation of the current coalition federal govt. While talking people meeting here on Sunday, he was quoted saying the current independent govt is severe than the dictatorship. He claimed that the govt forced the MQM to boycott AJK elections. MOM Leader says the elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir should be declared absolutely nothing and useless and new elections should be organised. Altaf Hussain lashed out at the govt and says that unfair, undemocratic and illegal actions taken were used by the current govt. Altaf Hussain says that despite the reality that the MQM had backed the current govt in tough occasions, it had stabbed the MQM in the back.The MQM selected President Asif Ali Zardari for the office of the President at a moment when nobody from his personal party was prepared to advise his name. The MQM provided absolute assistance to the PM Yusuf Raza Gilani.
The MQM came to their support when its being says that the govt could go any moment. Despite everything that the MQM did, the current govt tricked it.Altaf Hussain appealed to writers, press persons, human rights agencies and democracy caring folks to boost their voice against the undemocratic steps of the govt. He requested the Co-ordination Committee of the MQM to launch applications in the courts for getting the elections absolutely nothing and useless.
MQM announces to quit PPP-led coalition govt
Karachi: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday announced to quit Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) led coalition government, both at centre and Sindh.
The announcement was made by Dr Farooq Sattar, MQMs Parliamentary Leader in National Assembly, while addressing a press conference here at Nine Zero.Meanwhile, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan also resigned from his post. A press statement issued from Governor House said that Dr Ibad resigned as Governor Sindh.Dr Sattar, who is also Deputy Convenor of MQM Rabita Committe, enumerated a list of complaints against the PPP-led government. He said that despite being continuously neglected by PPP in decision making process, MQM supported the government in every thick and thin. He claimed that PPP pressured MQM to withdraw from a seat of AJK Legislative Assembly in Karachi in favour of PPP, which was unacceptable for us. He said that in wake of what he said cheap tactics being used by the government against it allies especially MQM, they had decided to quit the government both at centre and Sindh.He said that the decision was taken after taking on board the party workers, leaders, office-bearers, and parliamentarians.

The conflict between the MQM and the government led by Pakistan Peoples Party governments decision to postpone the elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir, three seats of the Legislative Assembly last month.
As a result, the leadership of the MQM decided that it no longer possible for the party to continue performance of the government as part of the Pakistan Peoples Party-led coalition.

Talking to Geo News, said PML N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said his party knew this would happen, and said that the ministers of the MQM also should return to their jobs.
He added that it was difficult to sit in the seats and the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party and MQM should cease to act and not play games with people.
