MQM Condemns Imran Khan Statment Against Pakistan Nuclear Program

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members of the National Assembly (NA) have declared Imran Khan's proposal of joint civil nuclear power plant with India, as open hypocrisy - ARY News reports.

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, MQM members said that the PTI Chairman should quit his dual-natured politics and clearly state what does he want.

It was said that on one side, Imran Khan is provoking the nation against the United States (US) and other western powers over the NATO supply and drone attacks, while on the other hand he is talking of partnership with India on a sensitive issue like nuclear technology.

MQM members inquired that if the PTI Chief wishes to befriend India and US so much, then why is he affecting the entire Pakistani nation with anti-US and India hysteria.

They said that Pakistan and India must have friendly ties, but patriotic Pakistani people will not let any politician bargain on Pakistan's nuclear program including Imran Khan.

Although I've supported IK's actions on several occasions, but I've my reservations on his recent talk in Delhi things that I've mentioned in another thread. This is not a comparison of MQM/PML-N/PPP/PTI but a question of "national" policy just as IK argues that he criticizes US drone policy/Indian Kashmir policy but not US or India per se. I know this might not go well with some folks here, but let's face it... we need to encourage and accept dissent and be accountable for all our words/actions.

Note that IK proposed a joint civilian nuclear energy plant at the border, borrowing on the example of European Coal & Steel Community (the precursor of EC/EU the example he gave in the preceding sentence to this proposal), but sorry to say it appears neither visionary nor very well thought through for three reasons: (a.) it was inconsistent with IKs own emphasis on the Environment in his talk, and at a time when the whole world, esp EU, is moving away from nuclear energy and planning to phase out their nuclear power stations; (b.) the proposal for a "nuclear-free south asia" is already on the table between India and Pakistan; and (c.) given the mutual mistrust, a better CBM/proposal couldve been joint renewable energy (solar/wind) projects, hospitals and water reservoirs on the border that are also practicable and could serve and benefit people on both sides of the border.... instead of proposing another biohazard on the heads of the poor masses..
