Who watches Sethi in this age and time?
News channels are not charity for a niche market but to make money. Last government had given ads to keep such people on air. Sethi is darling to a small number of people , most of whom reside outside country and some very old farsooda and pseudo learned souls. .If the channel has cancelled his program, that is good for them. Sethi and co.'s agenda had been defeated in the last election anyway.
Sethi attained repetition only because he was in inner circle of Zardari and his 'chirya' was caged in malik riaz's backyard. Now that sort of expertise are obsolete and useless.
He may better go to internet and do what ever bak bak he excels in. Make it in English language -- perhaps some foreigners and Indians will subscribe to his channel.

I have a dvd full of articles and short audio/video clips playing on the theme of 'failed state' circa 2008-09 . 1/4 of the contents is from the paki pseudo intellectuals and commentators in front of foreigners or in foreign journals/magazines. However, besides the western terrorism experts, the Indians residing in foreign lands were the main force contributing to that meme.
Prior to that (pre-911) there was 'blowback' meme. Paki pseudo intellectual used to play over it in early nineties.
The story of fake intellectual fashions of bourgeois liberal is very colorful but that's different but quite an interesting topic.
In that times it all made sense - there was war in Afg/post 911 with around 100 million dollar yearly propaganda funds allocated for this region.
Similar was the situation when USSR occupied Afg. A certain kind of narrative was sure money maker and to secure a seat in the western chatting table. USSR funded directly (kgb/stassi documents are available especially during this era, if you are interested to name the names) but West, to win over leftists and bourgeois liberals for their cause in Afghanistan, used European Newleft and they invested huge on that regard. Everyone benefited in that era. (There is a large literature and CIA documents available, if you wish to see relation between Newleft and anti-communism - though European communists ware the real target).These 'Scandinavian type' ex-communists were 'reformed in that era . Today's human right activists are product of that era as well but directly from us donors. (Human rights campaign was specifically designed to defeat communism after veitnam war along with ngo's. leftist-liberals were utterly opposed to it - even marx wrote against such bourgeois fetishes at his times. During 90's, after Kashmir uprising, Indian invested in bourgeois liberal to popularize the theme of 'terrorism' for suppressing the liberation moment. prior to that Indian investment was limited to bacha khan family and their followers. main Indian targets were in East Pakistan.
In any case, ussr and us were defeated in afg, paki useless and impotent pro-imperialist liberal defeated politically in pakistan, the funds dwindling, the foreigners regressing from the region -- what sethi and other ex-leftist stand for - nothing whatsoever. What they have to offer expect corruption and misery to the people. these people (bourgeois liberals) are like 'gwachi gaan' the same as what had happened to 'communists' after USSR - now they need new source of funding. Hoping that they can use Noon league or PPP type regressive and reactionary parties to make a living or maintain some sort of aura of intect was a stupidity and that had to fail. The human right type intellectuals will also meet the same fate as that 'western bourgeois slogan' is beyond its useful life. It is time for Sethi type to do alla alla or to take daily dose of abuse and gaali from any one walking on the street. They have become like mullas - anyone young and old can abuse a mulla or make fun of dahri - without any regret but for fun and fashion.. Else I'll advise sethi type to become environmentalist - there is some money into that for some time.

this is in fact very good news, for the first time in pakistan's history a civilian government and military is working as team to overcome the problems.

Once, there was time when he enjoyed a throwback clout of TFT readership (he had made a name for writing below-the -belt satire against Shreefs and was thought to be a leftist because of his 70-80's adventures.) He joined Meiraj Khalid as a key minister, took a stand against benazir's corruption but soon recovered from that episode.
During Musharraf times he was patronized in 'enlighten moderation" and Geo-led social engineering era. (Those were the times when 'The Daily Times flourished as well which was duly propped up by the western media houses.)
In PPP times he had direct access to Zardari administration and PPP inner circles, yet was generally distrusted by PPP . He lost all respect when he played second fiddle to Shareefs however was jacked up by Shareef's investment on media. With joining Shareefs, he lost all integrity (if he ever had any except for self serving pseudo intellectualism.)
Then PTI struck over the out-moded 80's politics and utter intellectual bankruptcy of Musharraf's pets; pro-war liberals and so-called secular jokers.
The rest is the recent history. Sethi and his stale followers are not worth a full Gaali any more. It is time to put such characters in a coffin and forget like a bad dream. The country has moved forward: It is high time for lazy Sethi fans to grow up as well.

Still his show earns the major revenue and viewership for the 24NEWS channel.
only potiyans and people in govt are allergic to him otherwise everyone watches him and listen to his analysis
