He is partially true. But not entirely. I myself criticised Iran for not having any credible air defences to deter Israel initially. But now looking at the responses from Iran for the last few days, I am convinced that under these circumstances, that is the best Iran could have done.
For decades Iran has been portrayed as a pariah, and heavy sanctions had been placed on Iran. It was not able to purchase the latest air defences or fighter jets. Without state-of-the-art air defences, it would be impossible for any country to deter Israel, no small thanks to the USA.
Once air dominance is established like it is now, you are at the mercy of your enemy. In the absence of any modern jets, Iran has invested in drone and missile technology. The drones in numbers could only be possible if they are low quality; even the USA doesn't have an unlimited number of raptors. The problem is due to distance; the travel time for drones is long, giving Israel and his supporters plenty of time to shoot them down.
Therefore, Iran is left with just one option, which can travel fast and is comparatively difficult to shoot down: the missiles.
The ordinary missiles were easy to shoot down for the Iron Dome and the David's sling.
Most advanced hypersonic missiles are getting through Israel's defences and hitting Israel hard. There is widespread destruction in Israel, which Israel never envisaged.
Even the less sophisticated missiles have done their job by weakening the defences. Israel is running short of air defence missiles because it is launching 2/3/4 missiles to shoot down one cheaper missile. If it wasn't for the US, UK and Jordanian air airforces the story would have been completely different; Israel would have run out of ammunition probably on the second night.
In my estimation only 10/20% of Iran's missiles are reaching Israel. 80%+ are shot down before they reach Israel.
Considering all the factors, Iran is doing remarkably well.
Make no mistakes; the USA and UK are actively involved in the war. They may not be directly attacking Iran, but they are enabling Israel to defend by shooting down Iranian missiles; otherwise, Israel would be in far deeper problems. Plus, the USA is providing a full spectrum of satellite coverage to Israel and sharing real-time intelligence. While the UK's jets are in the air from Cyprus to help Israel. The UK has sent more jets to Cyprus for this reason. Not to mention the ammunition, missiles and bombs. The USA is not provided bunker buster smart bombs yet to attack Iran's underground nuclear sites. Otherwise there would be mushroom clouds hanging all over Iran.
