RTTNews) - Pakistani police said Thursday it had arrested an Indian national from Bannu district in the country's troubled northwest Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province (formerly, the North- West Frontier Province).
The Indian national, identified as Kolan Raj and said to be a resident of the southern Indian metropolis of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, was arrested when the army conducted a raid in Jani Khel area of Bannu, located near the tribal belt, but his accomplice fled the scene, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Haji Iftikhar.
He claimed Raj was an "agent" of the Indian external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).
The army recovered weapons, maps and documents relating to RAW from the possession of 28-year-old Raj, Iftikhar claimed, adding that the Indian spy was taken to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
Officials earlier identified him as Colin Raj, and said he was arrested for entering Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province without possessing valid travel documents.
Bannu district borders the volatile North and South Waziristan tribal regions.
