Pakistani TV series Dhoop Kinare was the rage on both sides of the border during the 1980s and Sony is trying to cash in on the popularity of the hospital romance with its new show Kuch Toh Log Kahenge, an adaptation of the play featuring Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan.
The theme of Kuch Toh Log Kahenge is the same and so are the characters. While the role of Dr Ahmer Ansari will be played by Mohnish Behl, TV actress Kritika Kamra will enact the role of Dr Zoya.
Kamlesh Pandey, who scripted Rang De Basanti, is re-writing the script to strike a chord among the audience of both countries. He said that the biggest challenge for the writer was to do justice to the characters and the story, which was originally written by Haseena Moin.
I feel writing for television is the biggest challenge for any writer. And though I love TV so much, but off late, I was pained to see the kind of serials and reality shows that have flooded the small screen, Pandey said.
When, I was offered to re-write this serial, I was in a fix. First, to adapt the storyline of a serial which has been appreciated so well is a task in itself. Secondly, to do justice to the original story of Haseena ji was the biggest challenge, he added.
Promos of the show are already generating curiosity among people and Sneha Rajani of Sony Entertainment Television feels the show will help the channel to strengthen its position in the market.
We are primarily focussing on fiction shows, but they have to be fresh and simple. So, after audiences accepted Bade Acche Laggte Hai and Saas Bina Sasural, we wanted to further strengthen our position, said Rajani, Sonys senior executive vice president and business head.
Set in a hospital, the Indian remake is a love story of two doctors from two different generations - Ashutosh (Mohnish), a 38-year-old surgeon is married to his duty and is a disciplinarian, while Nidhi Verma (Kritika) is a 24-year-old carefree, jovial, MBBS graduate. The show depicts how they get attracted to each other but are unable to express their feelings because of the huge age difference.
The show premiers October 3 and it will run Monday to Friday at 8pm.

Why do you always see negativity in everything. Sony is catering to a world wide audience of expatriates. If haseena moin's drama is getting a fresh lease of life, that is excellent too. I see this as a good marriage of a great idea and great execution.(clap)
Btw This is not bollywood. Tv entertainment production is a different industry.

Rajan Shahi’s Kuch To Log Kahenge that goes on air from October 3, 2011 on Sony is an adaptation of the popular Pakistani television drama Dhoop Kinare starring Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan. The television series is being re-written by well-known writer Kamlesh Pandey who has also written the script of Rang De Basanti.
A source says, “The channel and the production house wanted to try something new and decided to remake the popular Pakistani series Dhoop Kinare. The channel even approached the actual story writer Haseena Moin for an approval and she was pleased to learn that her 25 year old series was being remade on Indian television. She had written the story of Dhoop Kinare in just two hours on being challenged by a friend. Furthermore, Haseena ji was happy that Kamlesh Pandey was re-writing the script. However Kamlesh Pandey wasn’t very keen on writing for TV but when he got to know that he had to re-write Dhoop Kinare he readily agreed.”

Kuch To Log Kahenge is a love story between an elder man and a younger woman. Kritika Kamra and Mohnish Behl will play the leads Dr. Nidhi Verma and Dr. Ashutosh on the show. Other actors on the show include veteran Alok Nath, Vijay Kashyap and Rukhsar. Tanya Abrol who was last seen in Sony’s Palampur Express is also a part of the show.
When contacted writer Kamlesh Pandey said, “Dhoop Kinare had brought two countries together back then. And if Kuch To Log Kahenge manages to do the same then I would say I have succeeded in my work.”

When a TV Channel takes permission from the author, that means credits would feature her name.

To show due respect, how about the producers get some Pakistani actors to play part as well? Aman ki aasha?

There was another play written by Haseena Moin which was telecast on star plus. It was called ' Tanha' and it had Marina Khan in the lead role. They can have pakistani actors too but i guess casting etc. is the channel's decision. Nothing stops pakistani actors from appearing in Indian Tv serials. Its a question of right opportunity and right person being there at the right time.

I don't know if it is legal in india to copy somebodys work. I think SONY should first get agreement from the writers or producers of the original show before it is remade in india but i don't know much about legel matters. I think if Indians are copying something from pakistan it should be taken as complement.

Its not a copy. They are not re-making 'dhoop kinare' the PTV production, they are taking the original idea from haseena moin the author and re-writing the drama to suit the viewer of 2011 and it is a copyright of Set asia pvt. ltd. The original play was written 25 years back. Why the condescending attitude? Appreciation of all things good is never a tough thing to do when you have an open mind.
And Thanks for derailing the thread!

LOL. It might sound a bit baffling but men actually look younger than they are. Especially if they have a full head of hair. Consequently if you were to actually have a 38 year old lead wooing a much younger girl, he would actually look way younger and the whole plot would fall apart. The author wanted to create this Mills & Boon plot of older matured man and younger immature woman.
In that case why choose an older than older person? baffling!

what you people know about new idea and talent when you destroyed your own industry where ur people were groomed to be talented....
it is big heart of sony tv who gave credit to writer/director instead of writing new script on that story...they could easily save Rupees 300 or 400 which they might
have paid to paki writer/director.
fact is that your youth is lining up at indian border for visa to enter in india to en-cash their talent. or they are lining up in torabora to launch jehad against india.
