Don't need to ridicule me. First go and search what VPN is. Proxy is kind of layman term used by those guys mostly who have just heard that "Yaar use proxy to watch youtube". May be you haven't heard about VPN.
I am pasting the definition below. Next time don't redicule anyone when you don't have proper knowledge. :P
A proxy and a VPN is largely similar in function, but a little different in the way it is used and what it is used for. Both act as “filters” that hide your actual IP information (IP is the unique port address associated with your internet connection), thus allowing you to access region-locked web resources (Netflix, Hulu, etc.), anonymize your internet connection and even thwart hack attempts.
Proxy Server
From Wikipedia:In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers.Your computer would connect to the proxy server and make a request for a resource (say a web page). The proxy server then goes and gets the resource, and then passes it back to you.
VPN
Again from Wikipedia:
A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network that uses a public telecommunication infrastructure such as the Internet to provide remote offices or individual users with secure access to their organization's network.
I did not mean to insult at all, was just pointing out the difference.. VPN is point to point tunnel my friend and only hides you because the server you are connected and the client are privately negotiating and creating a path which is private in nature (this means you are not hidden, your server knows where the connection has originated)...where as a proxy connection hides the source via different servers which are used as connection points....I was merely trying to tell you this....and it is almost the same as the definitions you provided...
I am not sure why you got offended as I tried the same thing (clear the difference of terms that you had to cut and paste from wikipedia?
