worse comes to worse it is 40 for a permanent unlock if its not a stolen one.

Beware few of the Basebands are hard and expensive to unlock. Like 04.11.08. But others can be unlocked on your own.

1. What we need from you to get your phone unlocked.
a. To unlock your iPhone, we need to know the IMEI number of your phone.
b. To get the IMEI of your phone, please go to Settings > General > About.
c. Please check if the Version is 5.0 or above. Now check the IMEI.
d. Then youll need to call Customer Services wholl register your unlock request with Apple.
e. Well send you a text message when your unlock request is completed by Apple.
2. Unlocking your iPhone using an active Non-Three SIM card or a Wi-Fi connection.
Once youve received our confirmation text, follow these steps:
a. Switch off your iPhone and remove your Three SIM card.
b. Make sure your SIM card from the other operator is fully active. Insert the SIM card of your other operator in your iPhone and switch it on.
c. Your phone will start as usual. After around a minute, your phone will restart automatically and take you to the Choose a Network page.
d. If your phone goes to sleep, you can wake it up by tapping the power button at the top. When you do this, youll get an activation message - just unlock the screen to continue.
e. From here, you can complete the unlock process by using your available Wi-Fi or active Mobile Connection.
f. Once youve selected your connection method, your iPhone will connect to Apple to complete the activation and unlock process.
g. Once complete, your phone will return to the main screen and your iPhone will be ready to use the SIM card of any network.
h. If you are still facing any problem completing the unlock process, connect your phone to iTunes. It would help you unlock your phone.
3. Unlocking your iPhone by connecting to iTunes using a Three SIM card.
a. Switch on the airplane mode on your iPhone and connect the phone to iTunes on the computer and allow the phone to sync automatically.
b. Back-up photos - As soon as you connect your iPhone to the computer a small pop-up will appear in the centre of the screen that says Auto Play at the top. Select the option of Import Pictures and Videos and youll see another pop-up at the bottom right corner of the screen.
c. Click on Import on the box.
d. Back-up other data: Once the synchronisation is complete, youll get a message on iTunes that will say iPhone sync is complete. OK to disconnect. Now right click on the iPhones name below devices and click on Back Up.
e. Once the back-up is complete, youll get the Apple sign at the top centre of iTunes in a rectangular box which is known as the LCD screen. Now right click on the iPhones name again and click on Transfer Purchases.
f. Once the purchases are transferred, click on the Info tab under the Apple sign below the LCD screen. Make sure that the iPhones name below Devices is highlighted in blue to get the Info tab.
g. Click to apply a tick mark beside the option Sync contacts with and in the drop-down box select Windows Contacts / Windows Address Book. Now click on Apply and click on Sync at the bottom right corner of the iTunes window.
h. Click on Restore at the centre of the iTunes window under the Summary tab. Then click on Restore and Update if prompted and then Next.
i. Click on Agree for the terms and conditions for iPhone software update.
j. Once the restore is complete, itll give you two options from which you need to select the option Set up as a new device/phone.
k. Itll ask you to enter a name for your phone, so you can type any name in the box and click on Done which will complete the unlock process.

3g and 3gs can be unlocked using redsnow and if IOS is 4.1 and above flash ipad baseband but make sure phone is not manufactured on or after week 28 of 2011 if it is then its not safe to flash ipad baseband iphone 4 and 4s only factory unlock depending on network provider with iphone 3s just give me IOS and i ll tell u all steps in detail .
