"The date of independence

Since the power of transfer took place on the midnight of 14 and 15 August, the Indian Independence Act 1947 recognised 15 August as the birthday of both Pakistan and India. The act states;[SUP][18][/SUP]
"As from the fifteenth day of August, nineteen hundred and forty-seven, two independent Dominions shall be set up in India, to be known respectively as India and Pakistan."

Jinnah in his first broadcast to the nation stated;[SUP][19][/SUP]
"August 15 is the birthday of the independent and sovereign state of Pakistan. It marks the fulfilment of the destiny of the Muslim nation which made great sacrifices in the past few years to have its homeland."

It was on 15 August that the nation celebrated its birthday, however in subsequent years 14 August was marked as the independence day.[SUP][20][/SUP] The first commemorative postage stamps of the country, released in July 1948, also gave 15 August 1947 as the independence day.[SUP][21][/SUP] The night of 14-15 August 1947 coincided with 27 Ramadan 1366 of the Islamic calendar, which Muslims regard as a sacred night.[SUP][22][/SUP][SUP][23][/SUP]"

This is absolutely true Pakistan got its independence on 15 August 1947. On August 14 1947 the British ruled India and Pakistan. I think a few years latter Pakistan made many changes in its history which is an on going process.

Why 14th or 15th august, is an old debate. People happen to discuss this issue every august.
This wikipedia article is helpful to put things in a correct perspective.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partition_of_India

It says:

The two self-governing countries of India and Pakistan legally came into existence at the stroke of midnight on 14–15 August 1947. The ceremonies for the transfer of power were held a day earlier in Karachi, at the time the capital of the new state of Pakistan, so that the last British Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten of Burma, could attend both the ceremony in Karachi and the ceremony in Delhi. Thus, Pakistan's Independence Day is celebrated on 14 August and India's on 15 August.

On the night between 14th and 15th August, 1947, if the time of the announcement for independence or birth of the two independent states India and Pakistan was at midnight, i.e. it was sharp 2400 hours, 12 p.m. midnight, then it was still 14th August, however if the time was any thing after 12:00 p.m., even if it was 00:01 a.m. then it was past midnight, and then it will be 15th August, technically speaking. As for night of 27th Ramadan, in Arabic Hijra calendar the date changes at the Maghreb (Sun set, or early evening) time, so no matter whether it was midnight, 12:00 p.m. (14th August), or it was past midnight, 00:01 a.m. (15th August), it was still the night of 27th Ramadan.

Stroke of midnight begins a new day.

It was on 14 August Lord Mountbatten informed Mr. Jinnah that Britain will be leaving at the stroke of midnight it meant precisely at 0 hours Britain, until then Queen was head of state represented by Mountbatten. Mr. Jinnah took the oath as the head of state in accordance with the partition act on 15 August;). The radio brodcasts in Pakistan were " This is all India radio " right until before midnight;)

I support 15th of August 1947 bcoz of 27th Ramadhan, that was a message from Almighty Allah, and not from the British King....

27th Ramadhan 1366 was on 15th of August 1947 (day). Fully agreed with the sun-set theory too!

In Gregorian calendar a day is considered complete at midnight, simply stating, 14th August 1947 was last day of British Rule on 'British India', even Jinnah sb didn't allow to remove Union Jack till the completion of this day, and of course radio announcements too.

What Indians / USA / ISRAEL / GEO think or say about it, we don't care. They are nobody to decide. It's our country. We'll follow n support the truth! Celebrating independence day on 14th or 15th doesn't make any or much difference, but we must keep our record correct!

(clap)(clap)(clap)(clap) Very good suggestion I never thought of that. Pakistan's birthday based on Islamic Calender(clap) not on non-Muslim calender.
