Assalam-o-alaikum
Yes you are right. Even in that debate u can get the idea who was right or who was wrong or all were wrong.
But for this you have to have some basic knowledge of our believes or imaan.
That is what are the essential pillars or ways or points by which we can correct our selves if we see any thing wrong, even if it is from our own masjid maulana.
No one is above the Quran & Hadith...
Hope our Ulemas correct these fitnas amongst ourselves, other wise we will be like BANI ISRAEL who were banned to enter into their homeland & were enslaved by Pharoe.. So all the incidents mentioned in Quran are not for that specific time, even today if we follow them, ALLAH will enforce HIS order or punishments. The advantage we have is due to our Prohphet PBUH DUA, that we will not be wiped out from face of the earth in one blow.
May ALLAH give us all hidayat.
