While the whole world is shaking from the corona virus, this year's flu wave has already claimed 130 lives in Germany alone. A total of almost 80,000 illnesses were reported this season, half of them in the past two weeks.

The flu wave in Germany has gained momentum. A total of 79,263 cases confirmed in the laboratory have been recorded since autumn, around half of which in the past two reporting weeks alone. This emerges from the current weekly report of the Influenza Working Group at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin. According to the report, 130 people have already been shown to have died from an infection with the influenza virus this season. A total of almost 13,300 patients have been treated in clinics so far.

The reported flu cases show only a section of the actual events. Several tens of thousands of deaths in Germany are believed to be in a violent flu season. During the heavy wave in winter 2017/18, RKI estimates that ten million doctor visits in Germany were caused by the flu.

Outbreaks with more than five cases occurred, according to the report, in kindergartens (92), hospitals (43) and schools (25). The flu is very contagious and is transmitted by sick people through droplets when sneezing, coughing or speaking. The virus can also be transmitted via doorknobs or grab handles in buses and trains. Regular and thorough hand washing is therefore helpful in order to prevent infection.

The real flu, caused by the influenza virus - unlike a cold - starts suddenly in many cases. Typical symptoms include fever, dry cough, sore throat, runny nose, limb and headache. In addition to many mild courses, there are also those with complications such as pneumonia.

Comparing flu with COVID is like comparing apples with oranges...

Coronavirus has a much higher morbidity/mortality risk than Flu.

Healthcare systems across the world will be completely overwhelmed if COVID to become a Pandemic.

Also, Flu is almost completely gone by April/June.
On the other hand, have no idea if same will happen to COVID.
