Ek Chaand Ek Ummat (One moon one Ummat)

In the month of Ramadhan,Eid-ul-fitr or even Eid-ul-Adha we notice that we Muslims in the different places in the world begin to fast or celebrate Eid on different days and finish on different days, which contradicts with Sunnah of the Prophet(saw)) .

These differences show that there is something missing and that there most definitely is a PROBLEM when we Muslims cannot agree on when to start fasting or celebrate Eid on ONE universal day worldwide as Muslim Ummah.Though we repeatedly claim that we are all Muslim,ONE UMMAH, with one Aqeedah-Tawheed and are ONE BROTHERHOOD,why are there then these differences existing amongst us in different parts of the world?Allah(Swt) says in the Quran,Indeed the believers but a single brotherhood(49:10)

The Prophet(saw) said,The Muslim Ummah is one Ummah exclusively to others: Their Land is One, their War is One, their Peace is One, their Trust is One and their Honor is one.(Ahmed)
The moon can be sighted by all people and consequently the beginning and end of the months can be known by all. And the Messenger of Allah (saw) taught us how to know when the month begins and when it ends. He also taught us what to do in case we dont see the moon.

Bukhari narrates that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, Do not fast until you see the moon, and do not break fast until you see it. In another narration, the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, if you see it (moon) fast and if you see it break fast (and the moon). But, if it cant be seen, then calculate for it. In another narration, the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, The month is twenty nine nights.

Thus, do not fast until you see it. But, if it is not visible, then complete the month thirty days.
In addition, Ad-Dar Qutni and Abu Daul narrated (sahih hadith) that Ibn Umar said that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, People were trying to sight the moon, and I told the Messenger of Allah (saw) that I saw it. So he started fasting and ordered the people to start fasting. This hadith tells us that one person sighting the moon is sufficient to start fasting the month of Ramadan.

So from this incident we draw conclusion that the correct opinion is that one sighting is sufficient for all Muslims to fast and break fast(Eid). This is regardless to where the sighting of the moon occurred and it becomes binding on all Muslims to follow. This is due to the honorable hadith.
Fast for seeing it, and break for seeing it. The phrase for seeing it is general for any sighting in any region

Deobandi & Barelvi original Fatawa - obligatory to follow sighting of Muslim from any land for Ramadhan & Eid

Deobandi & Barelvi original Fatawa - obligatory to follow sighting of Muslim from any land for Ramadhan & Eid

It is interesting that the founding and well known scholars of the Deobandi and Barelvi movements who have influence in the Indian Subcontinent, home to over a half of the Muslim Ummah have clearly stated this as the correct view regarding the sighting of the moon in their Fatawa. It is unfortunate that today that many who claim to follow them ignore following this Shariah rule.

The co-founder of Dar al-Uloom Deoband, Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi said: If the people of Calcutta sighted the moon in Friday, whereas it was sighted in Makkah on Thursday itself, but the people of Calcutta did not know of it (the sighting on Thursday); then whenever they come to know of this, it will be obligatory for them to celebrate eid with the people of Makkah and make up (Qada) for the first fasting. [Maulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi, Sharh Tirmizi (Explanation of Tirmizi), Kaukab un Durri, pg 336, Urdu edition]

Wherever the sighting is confirmed, however far off it may be, even if it were to be thousands of miles; the people of this place will have to abide by that. [Fatawa Dar ul Uloom Deoband, Vol. 6 page 380, Urdu edition]
Irrespective of how far the news of sighting came from, it is to be relied upon. For instance if the people of Burma did not sight the moon, and a person from Bombay testifies to them of having sighted the moon; it will be incumbent upon the people of Burma to make up for the (first) fasting i.e. Qada. [Mufti Kifayatullah, Taleem ul Islam, vol. 4, section sighting of moon: Urdu edition]

When the moon is sighted in one place it is not just for that region but for the entire world. [Maulana Amjad Ali, Bahar e Shareeat, Vol 2 page 108, Urdu edition]

The founder of the Barlevi's said: In the correct and authentic mazhab of our Imams, with regard to the sighting of moon for Ramdhan and eid, distance of the place of sighting is of no consideration. The sighting of the east is binding upon west and vice versa i.e. the sighting of west is similarly binding on east. [Maulana Ahmad Raza Khan, Fatawa Rizwi; Vol 4 page 568, Urdu edition]

Observing Ramzan and Eid with Khan Kaaba is the only answer to finish this drama we see in the form of different declarations by different Moulvis each year. Only one can be correct!. So let it be the one in Khana Kaaba.

there are liers in kpk who wants to fast with saudi arabia and gives false shahadat of moon sighting. this has been evident in one of the previous year where due to these people wrong declaration was made.

O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination.
