1) Increase in the import bill because of increased prices. This caused the majority of the hike in the import bill. Our food and petrol price bills have hiked a lot because of global inflation.
2) Increase in the number of import commodities. This is the point of Desprado that we increased our imports and hence the import bill. However, this point is not responsible for the majority of the increase in our bill hike. Two sectors showed growth in the number of imports. One is the machinery under the CPEC projects and the other one is the increase in the number of vehicles. Now out of this whole scenario he just picked up vehicles and declared them the reason for the hike in import bill. Now that claim is not data-based. There was a hike in the vehicle import bill but it was a minor contribution to the bill. Opening car imports was also necessary to break the cartelization of the companies and to bring down the own on new cars. Own in Pakistan is a new thing that artificially inflates the prices of vehicles and a lot of capital gets parked in the terms of owns. That own amount got spent in a totally nonproductive way by the middle men.

I think that had passed when we reached 4+ growth with almost 0 CAD. That was actually job well done. What happened at start was inexperience, largely accepted by everyone. You are simply ignoring politics involve at IMF level, you should be aware uncle sam doesn't want IK to be at PM office anymore, they will do everything to twist his arm. You will see this will open up with time.
Uncle sam made PM to do 4 billion CAD, created Subsidy on petrol prices, fixed priced of sugar and Wheat caused artificial demand, uncle sam said to pm you should force negative interest rate, uncle sam said to pm that budget should be depend on cars growth and entire budget depends on 80% custom duty sales tax.
Your argument doesn't stand up to validity because the only imports that increased were cars and when seen in percentages they dont have a big share. The big share belongs to oil food and cpec. These are essential imports and we didn't increase their numbers they just got expensive globally. You cant increase the demand of petrol and food artificially
When you do not pass the real prices of food and petrol it creates demand. Real Petrol value is PKR 180 and India and Bangladesh is not stupid like Pakistan where are giving subsidy for food items and petrol.
You are jumping arguments you brought IMF first, now you are jumping to commodities. You are making too much fuss out of CAD, this year will be tough not just for PK but all import based countries. You fail to see basic society failures over-population, lack of will to educate yourself, begging govt fro subsidies and most of all death of morality. These are core problems in the society, without fixing this PK will keep reeling on the knees. You have to be honest and fair in your assessment. You criticize each and every move that actually means you have agenda.
